Here's a thought... maybe somebody should have bothered marking Diarmuid Murtagh? MunnionOfMunnionHill (Monaghan) - Posts: 7 - 17/02/2025 00:35:00 2591474 Link 0 |
Excuses Shellbourne - we played well in spells but were beaten by the better team. History never looks at the injury list - no excuses

Hyde Park is the windiest County ground in the country.. Roscommon getting the wind in the second half meant that Monaghan needed a serious lead at half time and it didn't happen. It's not the first time we have gone there with a decent lead at half time only to lose the game. Monaghan missed McAnespie and Hamil for winning the dirty ball in midfield when the pressure came on with the Roscommon press. Losing 3 points to players crossing the midfield line is the new version of kicking the ball into the goalkeepers hands, it's unforgivable. The performance was good otherwise.. Looking forward to Cork next Sunday and if the crowd sees a third man cross the midfield , I hope everyone is out of their seats letting the referee know.

Never been to Salthill i take it? Some strange calls from the ref yesterday, Anyone any idea what the penalty was for? Must have forgot his black cards too. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1198 - 17/02/2025 10:30:42 2591529 Link 0 |
Yea shocking for both teams to be fair the penalty was for a pull of the shoulder it was a soft penalty to say the least but the ref had a poor day blowing for silly things and not blowing for thing rite in front of him

Roscommon deserved the win yesterday, it was commandable peformance from a very inexperienced monaghan team. We do look light and small though in many departments. I wouldnt say it's a given these two get promoted (well monaghan anyway), big game next Sunday, a win for cork opens the whole thing up. Is it Inniskeen next Sunday? 222 (UK) - Posts: 822 - 17/02/2025 14:58:42 2591599 Link 0 |
Ha, I've been to Salthill many times.. There is plenty of wind there but I reckon Hyde Park with a strong wind has a massive influence on the game.. It was a soft penalty alright.. and the ref did not have a good game..

No complaints from Monaghan on the result overall. They did cough up 5 points by breaking the 3-up rule which is far too much of a 'head start' to give a team like Roscommon. D Murtagh will obviously take the plaudits but I thought Keith Doyle did a lot of the work in the middle- he outlasted the Monaghan midfield. Penalty was a joke of a decision, also Ryan Wylie getting done for 5 steps after turning over Donie Smith who took 10! Some very odd decisions like this. The linesman under the stand in the first half gave every single ball to the home side, while a black card for Michael McCarville would have been been justified. Cant argue with that, Very good honest assessment. Best of luck for the rest of year and hopefully both teams can go straight back up. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1198 - 18/02/2025 10:35:53 2591736 Link 0 |

Hello my Fermanagh friend, point out anything I said about Monaghan gaa that was wrong. Monaghan are now in transition with the loss of Conor McManus ( irreplaceable )and my prediction for Monaghan this year is 1. A 1/3 chance of getting promoted back up to Division 1, getting (at best) to an Ulster semi final and making the last 8 of the All Ireland series. It is now ten years since Monaghan won Ulster and it's hard not to feel that Monaghan left about two Ulster titles slip behind them. Hopefully the rebuilding starts to take shape this year. Hopefully the slow build up to attack that Monaghan takes will be transformed by the new rules and fast attacking football Bernardo (Monaghan) - Posts: 607 - 21/02/2025 05:30:56 2592200 Link 0 |
Expect monaghan to bounce back to winning ways on Saturday and westmeath to beat cavan who were lucky to beat louth last weekend Farneyblueandwhite (Monaghan) - Posts: 1 - 21/02/2025 08:07:49 2592210 Link 0 |
Think Saturday will be a very tricky game. Cork can't afford to loose another game as they still have to play roscommon. Good test for this monaghan team. Expect a gael force win, so it could be a game of two halfs. 222 (UK) - Posts: 822 - 21/02/2025 13:08:37 2592268 Link 0 |
Well said by a true Cavan man. Enjoy your game in Mullingar lol

We need some of our top players back. Disaster that game brought forward to Sat. Booked ticket & can't go now. All our home games should be in Clones.

I'm in the same boat. Half two is a terrible time on a Saturday. Why. It go later? What about people working?

More than tricky, it could be extremely tough. Cork have the size and running power to cause Monaghan major problems. Always have. They are a strange outfit in many ways, they could bury a decent team one week and lose to a poor team the next. You just never know. They also have no fear or respect for Monaghan, and why would they? Discipline on the new rules critical for Monaghan, can't be giving 4 or 5 cheap points away. Monaghan have to get scores on the board early and have the Cork lads thinking about the bus home well before the end. If its tight late on I think they will have the legs on Monaghan.q Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1150 - 21/02/2025 16:40:13 2592315 Link 1 |
What has playing in Clones got to do with the expected bad weather.

Monaghan have had a few leagues where we got the jump on teams in the first few games as we had more work done and then form went for rest of league when other sides caught up. Saturday will tell a lot in this regard and where we are seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1857 - 21/02/2025 20:41:28 2592343 Link 0 |
