Really enjoyed the 2nd game myself, and Id far prefer hurling as a game to watch in general. Some of Cualas transitioning into attack was absolutely excellent, the lines the support players took and the timing of the passes was superb, and all at a fast pace. Especially in the 1st half. Really good front foot football. Then in the 2nd half the Ballygawley lads came out and gave Cuala what they had had to take in the first half. All in all a credit to all the players concerned.

It is only a "super club" because it was built up from nothing by a small group of people who wanted to promote hurling in particularly in a part of Dublin that was weak in regards to gaelic games. I assume you would prefer had they not bothered? Or perhaps that they might disband? BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3300 - 20/01/2025 11:48:23 2586556 Link 2 |
Spot on Barney.

Be a bit silly for a successful superclub to disband.

Because of course every club outside of Dublin wasn't formed in the same way.....

Yeah, only one to have done it with two different clubs. CorkLiamMcCarthy24 (Cork) - Posts: 72 - 20/01/2025 23:46:26 2586698 Link 0 |
Hard to compete with the super clubs.. CorkLiamMcCarthy24 (Cork) - Posts: 72 - 20/01/2025 23:47:28 2586699 Link 0 |
There is a lot of things I would disagree with Barney one but this is absolutely correct. This superclub thing i rubbish, its like as if they have a factory where they produce the players of something, It is just an extension of the anti-Dublin brigade bitterness. There is a thread called the Anti-GAA agenda there should be one called the Anti-Dublin as there are some on here that would prefer the GAA didn't exist in Dublin.

Why aren't they winning it every year so? Also Cork have more GAA clubs than any other county?

Very well said. Look if it was K.Crokes who won it, nothing against Crokes, but I could understand somewhat. But Cuala.... no, I am not having it. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4084 - 21/01/2025 10:17:25 2586739 Link 0 |
Agree 100%. I've made this point numerous times before. It's almost as if people would prefer that there was no GAA club in places like Dalkey or other parts of south Dublin. Because of the huge work done by people in clubs like Cuala and Kilmacud, there are thousands of kids and adults playing football and hurling that otherwise would have been lost to Gaelic games. Years ago the GAA had very little presence in these areas. These are clubs to be commended for the trojan work they've done. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2226 - 21/01/2025 10:19:20 2586740 Link 2 |
My own club would have taken some hit over years through bigger northside clubs taking players that might otherwise have come to ourselves but its not their doing really. Parish rule is meaningless and lads playing in schools are going to be drawn to the stronger clubs in general area. South Dublin is different again in that there was little GAA presence so likes of Crokes, Boden and Cuala expanded very quickly from small clubs into huge ones because they accepted the challenge. Has to be said that some others in more working class areas have not done so. Not entirely their own doing but many have lost their old school bases and not altogether through others moving in. All urban areas are having and will have this problem so when likes of Na Fianna and Cuala can turn that around, then fair play to them. I can understand the frustrations If you have the playing numbers, accompanied with talented people in charge, who are passionate club people to boot, those playing numbers are a huge advantage because its gives the clubs involved the best chance of success. You can't train a donkey into being a race horse though, they simply have the talent pool it takes to be the best. But.. calling Cuala a super-club is a daft thing to say, it does sound like bitterness, and it needs to be fact checked. Just like Trump waffling on like a gombeen about Spain being a member of BRICS in front of the world while sitting in the Oval office.. Best to call out nonsense when you see it, and check a few facts. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20710 - 21/01/2025 10:49:27 2586751 Link 1 |
Errigal are far from being a small rural parish team. They have the biggest catchment area in Tyrone. An area the same size brings in Moortown, Ardboe, Brockagh, Kevin Barry's, Derrytresk, Clonoe, Stewartstown and Coalisland. They didn't turn up until the second half on Sunday and just left too much to do. The jury is out on the knock to the head of Darragh, like all things, it depends what county is involved. It is clear that the knee to his head was accidental. Cuala player was clearly focused on the ball. Well investigated by ref at time and there was no evident claims by Errigal lads themselves that it was anything malicious. Hope he is okay. Errigal certainly missed him when the comeback was in full flow. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3300 - 21/01/2025 12:08:52 2586769 Link 1 |
Were you not tipping Errigal Ciarán to win before the game?
