Thought the Martin's were there or thereabouts to be honest

Superb powerful display by Na Fianna yesterday. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4084 - 20/01/2025 09:54:48 2586513 Link 0 |
Martins gave Na Fianna their closest run outside Dublin. Dominated for good part of second half in Parnell and shooting let them down but Na Fianna in fairness have shown they can weather those sort of patches and come strong in end. Fruit years of losing games from winning positions. Great team to watch. Most enjoyable campaign and I'm not a clubman of theirs. I think the final scoreline of 2-23 to 0-20 is not a true reflection of the game tbh. Na Fianna could have won by a lot more having had a 14-point lead at one stage in the 2nd-half, and up by 12pts at Half Time. They finished with 9 different scorers. Just 4 yrs after contesting their first ever Dublin SHC final, & just 2 yrs since they won one, Na Fianna claimed club Hurling's ultimate prize. That is some achievement for the Glasnevin men in all fairness. Great seeing the huge crowd of Na Fianna supporters making the short walk together from Mobhi Road to Croke Park, with Garda facilitating the blue & yellow parade. They brought a lot of colour to the occasion. A word too for Niall O Ceallachain - what a super job he has done. Hopefully he can work some magic for the Dublin county team now... Definitely. And you are right, they outhurled Loughrea for most of that game.

Na Fianna were better overall on the day than the Martins, but yes, it was a pretty even game. Also I've always thought that home advantage seems to make a big difference when Dublin teams play Wexford teams, at club level, and minor, u20 and Senior intercounty also. Thought Martins were also close but could never get ahead and couldnt get over that 2/3 point gap for long stage but they we're definitely the next best in Leinster this year and if they'd gotten ahead they might've held out but couldn't get over that hump. Loughrea were winning for the first 57 mins and went ahead again in 60th minute before Na Fianna scored last 2 points with winner in 64th minute. I thought first half Loughrea fairly dominated and then Na Fianna took over for second half and last 10 mins was fairly hectic and equal. I don't know but I thought that game was fairly equal and Na Fiannas toughest game and one the looked the most likely to loose. But then again they didn't loose and were definitely top team in Ireland but that semi final was definitely the game they looked most like loosing. They took the lead at the most important time and that's the time that matters.

I thought they started slowly, while Loughrea definitely hit the ground running. But after they got going Na Fianna gradually got on top all over the pitch, and that was reflected on the scoreboard at the end. As you would expect in an AI club knockout game it was pretty even, but I really don't see how you could say Loughrea were better overall when they lost.

Delighted for Na Fianna - a great win for a great club, and fully deserved. If their manager can get Dublin to play with the same skill, intensity and intelligence it could be the start of something special for Dublin hurling.

It was definitely an advantage that day when it came to free taking. Very windy and sticky and a difficult place to score when unused to it, so certainly favoured NF. I think a lot of Parnell advantage is that when even half full, it can probably be a pretty unnerving atmosphere for Dublin's opponents. Which is why i never understood managers agreeing to being underside of football bill in CP. Having said that I think it now makes sense if Ó Ceallacháin has a similar template in mind for Dublin as Na Fianna. Badly exposed there twice last year against Limerick in league and Cats in Leinster final. It is after all where any team with ambition wants and needs to play. It's like any game anyone lost, you can never really claim you deserve to win it or should've won it…we should know that lesson in Wexford more than most! Loughrea probably should've been up 8/9 points at half time with their wides and ultimately that was the winning and loosing of the game for both sides but was probably the closest game Na Fianna had. I'd imagine if you were a Loughrea supporter you'd have seen that as a missed chance but Na Fianna took their chances and pipped the lead at the finish line and that's the most important time to take it. Score board never a liar when it's all said and done. Just saying that was the one game this year in the club all Ireland they looked most like loosing…considering they were loosing for 90% of it. Anyways well done to a super super team and what a performance in the final, score board did not fully represent their dominance and it could've easily been 19 points. It was the most 1 sided final in the last 5 years or so. Which was a shame for Sars, they deserved better for their performances over the year. At least those lads have Munster medals on their shelves, no mean feat in itself.

It could be construed as 'a mean feat' in the context of the allireland series though, with a whopping 18 of the last 20 all ireland winners not coming from Munster.

Sars aren't either. And the costs of running a GAA club up in Dublin are huge compared to anywhere else also. Sars have huge grounds, 2 all weather pitches each side of a long ball wall, a massive clubhouse etc etc.

Are you Castletown man on boards.ie? He posted something posted similar. You must have drank a lot of Smithwicks Sunday. Very salty.
