Kerrigan, Johnny

Johnny Kerrigan of Slanemore, Mullingar, who passed away on Wednesday, October 12th, 2016, aged 74, was a fine goalkeeper for Ballynacargy and Westmeath in the 1960s and '70s. Since hanging up his boots, he remained a loyal supporter of the club and will be remembered as a truly great Ballynacargy Gael. He starred on the side that won the junior championship in 1968, having played in 'the crossbar final' against Tubberclair the previous year. Johnny made his debut for the county minor team in 1958, as a 16-year-old, and was on the Westmeath side that contested the Leinster junior final against Wexford at Croke Park in 1963. He was regular first-choice goalkeeper with the Lake County in '63 and '64. As well as playing, Johnny also served the club well as a dedicated worker, fulfilling a variety of duties from underage coaching to fundraising. He was proud of every success achieved by Ballynacargy down through the years and Ballynacargy GAA was equally proud of Johnny Kerrigan.
