Ex-Private Joseph Cullen of Chapel Street, Athlone, who passed away on Monday, September 12th, 2016, was a former Custume Barracks soldier who served the Defence Forces for 27 years. Known affectionately as 'Joe' or 'Slippy', he was a talented hurler in his younger days and won a Galway MHC medal with Kiltormer in 1972.
