Beglin, Michael


Michael 'Mick' Beglan, Hillside Drive, Mullingar and late of Ballynacargy passed away on Saturday, April 8th, 2017. A talented footballer in his youth, Michael was a highly-respected clubman who gave great service to Ballynacargy GAA Club down through the years both on and off the field. He was a big, strong, powerful footballer who represented the club with distinction in the 1950s and '60s. Michael made the number three jersey his own as part of a well-drilled defence. A member of the Ballynacargy side that faced Tubberclair in the infamous 'crossbar final' at Cusack Park in 1963, he captained the club to junior glory five years later, when neighbours Shandonagh were beaten in the final. He was an active figure in the development of Moynihan Park during 1963. His sons John and Michael Jnr. also togged out for Ballynacargy. Michael, who was 88, worked for Westmeath County Council for most of his life and also ran a successful tarmacadam business.
