Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Notes

Slevins Coaches SHAC FINAL

Lough Lene Gaels…….1.16
Raharney………………….0.16
Lough Lene Gaels ended a wait of 24 years, when becoming the first club from outside the trio of Castletown Geoghegan, Clonkill and Raharney to win the Westmeath SHAC title since Castlepollard in 2005, when overcoming 15 times SHAC title winners Raharney in the 2026 Slevins Coaches SHAC final, played at Mullingar’s TEG Cusack Park on Sunday October 18th.

In achieving that success, Lough Lene Gaels staved off the possibility of obtaining the unwanted record of becoming the first club ever to be defeated in four Westmeath SHAC finals in succession. The excellent match reports in the Westmeath local newspapers will have further details on how this fixture unfolded and progressed to its conclusion. Lough Lene Gaels 0.07 Raharney 0.09 was the half time match scoreline. Scores in the third quarter of play for Lough Lene Gaels, were the scores that were the key to their eventual success, scores that moved Lough Lene Gaels 1.13 to 0.12 ahead by the midway point of the second half. The Lough Lene Gaels goal was scored by David Williams from a penalty.

Defences dominated much of the general play of the closing quarter of play. Raharney put in a very positive performance as this fixture drew towards its conclusion, Lough Lene Gaels leading by a margin of two points, 1.14 to 0.15, two minutes into stoppage time. Memories of Killian Doyle’s match winning wonderful goal for Raharney in the 2023 SHAC final, must have surely started to drift into the thought processes of many Lough Lene Gaels supporters watching on. Lough Lene Gaels though then proceeded to hit over a brace of points via David Williams (both frees), to move 1.16 to 0.15 ahead.

Raharney’s Killian Doyle did point a free in reply to close out match scoring. Lough Lene Gaels though were the match winners by a margin of three points, winning Westmeath SHAC title No8 as a consequence. Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club warmly and sincerely congratulates its 2026 Senior grade panel of players and team management on the winning of the 2026 Slevins Coaches SHAC competition, and expresses sincere gratitude to those persons who supported Lough Lene Gaels at TEG Cusack Park last Sunday and throughout its 2026 Slevins Coaches SHAC campaign. For the second time overall, the first time since 1998, Lough Lene Gaels has won a SHAC title by winning all its matches that it played in that same SHAC campaign.
