Replying To Onion Breath:  "Why are the GAA seemingly unable to issue a statement that includes the words "Northern Ireland" and thereby reflecting the democratic view of people across the entire island to recognise the existence of the state of Northern Ireland?

It was democratically recognised when the Treaty was democratically approved in 1921 and again when the Good Friday Agreement was voted on in 1998. Still the GAA, like the IRA, continue to act as if they refuse to recognise the state of Northern Ireland. They're happy enough to recognise the state when it comes accepting government grants.

Their linguistic gymnastics designed to avoid saying Northern Ireland are tiresome and irritating at this stage. Enough of "the North"."
Northern Ireland is not a "state".

Replying To Ulsterman:  "There's a story in today's Irish Independent that an Ulster U14 hurling team received vulgar abuse and partitionist catcalls at a tournament in Galway last week. The team's management and parents said the abuse included "British b*****ds" and "You're not even Irish". Many Ulster sides will tell you that this sort of abuse is rife when they travel South and it's shameful. I don't think the GAA and websites like HS can ignore this now as it's getting worse."

You failed to mention that the alleged abuse was from the opposition team's under 14 year old children, not adults. . Not nice. if true. But boys will be boys. Maybe it doesn't suit your agenda.

You also failed to mention that the chairman of the club who lodged the complaint said:
"Personally I have experienced this on many occasions and I am sure northern teams have sledged just as bad."

You also, failed to mention this:

When contacted by Independent.ie, the coach of the opposition team denied that any abuse had taken place.

"It didn't happen. I was there and it didn't happen," he said. "The game was played in good spirits. There were no chants whatsoever. A lot of what was said is untrue. "If all this has happened, why was nothing mentioned at the time to our mentors or to the officials? Not one of them approached anyone to say that any of this happened.

This is what Cork GAA chairperson Tracey Kennedy said:

"As far as I'm concerned, the Confederate flag is banned,"

"I'm happy to make that position explicit and say it's banned from our grounds. It has no place in our grounds or in supporting Cork teams.

My first concern is that it seems to be a unilateral decision made by Tracey Kennedy, she uses the word I, instead of we (as in the Cork county board).

With regards to the ban. You have to very careful when you start banning flags, because a group of people find it offensive. Some 'communities' would, indeed do, find the US Stars and Stripes offensive, or the Israeli Star of David flag for instance; not to mention the British Union Flag.

In fact, the Japanese Rising Sun Flag is often waved by Cork supporters. This flag is offensive in East Asia, particularly in South Korea. Will Tracey Kennedy be banning this too? If not, why not?

I fully understand the reason behind the ban, but feel this could have been handled in a better way. Instead she's made a knee-jerk reaction to events occurring in other countries.

Why have the Red Thumbs been removed? Where is the admin's explanation for doing it?

With both green and and red thumbs you tend get a general view of the point expressed, pro and con. A comment could get 4 greens and 5 reds. Now, only the 4 approvals (green) will show.

You can't get rid of one and leave the other. By getting rid of the red thumbs, and leaving the green; you are only allowing approval, and censoring disapproval. Either leave both, or get rid of both.

I speak as someone who has had far more red thumbs than green.

You are really rambling on here, showing great naivety. To take one point:

TV and most of the press were either controlled by the British Government or toed the party line; broadcasting and printing government propaganda. The vast majority of the British public knew next to nothing about, and couldn't care less about Northern Ireland; as long as it didn't directly effect their way of life.

Not that Saturday's result seemed to bother the former Dublin minor and U-21 manager too much, with their travelling supporters far more agitated.

One of them, standing on the terrace beneath the main press area, almost came to blows with a Longford supporter while later on, after Darren Gallagher kicked the winning point for Longford after winning a debatable free himself, Dublin supporters verbally abuse referee Alan Coyne as he exited the pitch.

In the end, it required the intervention of two gardaí and a couple of stewards to bring calm to an unseasonably combustible situation for the second weekend of January.

The problem this is that main page will become clogged with county pages (look at it now). Some posters have set-up separate football, hurling, intermediate and junior topics
It will become a mess, with general interest topics hard to find.
