Sister act: Muireann and Meadbh Scally, pictured with referee Kevin Reihill, captained Crookedwood and Clonkill when they met in the Westmeath senior camogie championship.

Has this ever happened before?

When neighbours Crookedwood and Clonkill met in Round 5 of the Westmeath Senior Camogie Championship last Sunday morning, they were captained by two sisters!

Muireann and Meadbh Scally, who are both stalwarts of the county team, skippered their respective sides in the local derby clash at Loughegar. Meadbh started her camogie career with the ‘Wood before transferring to Clonkill, while Muireann is also involved with Clonkill as their senior hurling team physio!

For the record, Clonkill won out on a 1-12 to 1-2 scoreline, but both teams progressed to the semi-finals along with Drumraney and long-time champions Raharney.
