Gort and Clarinbridge book Galway SHC semi-final spots

Clarinbridge's Cian Salmon.

Gort and Clarinbridge are the first teams to book their places in the Galway SHC semi-finals.

In Pearse Stadium, Mattie Murphy's Gort side squeezed past the strong challenge of Cappataggle, 0-19 to 0-18. It was tit for tat all the way as the eventual winners took a slender 0-11 to 0-10 lead into the interval. 2020 minor hurler of the year Liam Collins caused plenty of problems for the Gort defence but the winners' valuable experience told in the end.

In Saturday's other quarter-final at Kenny Park, Cian Salmon found the net in the first-half to help Clarinbridge to a 1-17 to 1-12 victory over Tommy Larkins. After trailing by four points at the break (1-8 to 0-7), Jason Flynn's goal on the stroke of the second water-break handed Tommies a lifeline. But it was the 'Bridge who finished strongest to seal their passage to the penultimate stage.

The action continues at Duggan Park today when reigning champions St Thomas' face 2020 intermediate winners Kilconieron at 1pm while Craughwell meet Kilnadeema-Leitrim afterwards in the other last-eight clash (3.30pm).
