Disgraceful Scenes At Half Time - 8 Like(s)
The Lee Keegan incident canno't be compared to what a Kerry player did to Nicholas Murphy of Cork in the first seconds of an All-Ireland final. The same player even bragged about it in his book. To say that the Keegan incident was one of the worst incidents in recent years is a wind-up.

Having 3 qualify from a group of 4 is a joke, a bit like children's sports day where everyone gets a medal.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Well if sf got into power they'd run out of here very quickly. Thankfully that's not gonna happen anytime soon. It seems that also is the main concern of reunification, a sf gov, probably propped up by dup. Majority in south would much prefer to have sdlp and moderate unionists in ascendency in north when unity happens. The fear of both extremists is real."
Why bring SF into the conversation.Do you assume that because I am from the six counties and support Irish unity that I vote SF?

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "Cillian O'Connor isn't in the same class as McCaffrey or Mannion, he's a tap over merchant, Mayo are better off without him same as big Aidan O'Shea, them young boys Mayo have are far better players."
Cillian O Conmor is one of the top forwards in the game and has been for a good few years, the stats don't tell lies.

Replying To AfricanGael:  "Hang on a minute Wexico15, yesterday you told everyone 45% of the population were vaccinated and now you are saying it's 45% of the ADULT population ? I'm glad to see the you have realized you were wrong but accept you made a genuine mistake. Apart from myself, there were only two other people who posted factual information re. vaccinations Greengrass or CiarraiMick. Even thought Wexico15 did make a genuine mistake and I would hope he is able to acknowledge that, it's clear he wasn't the only one fooled by it. You see I know the figure of 20% which I posted is absolutely correct and I can prove it, and I also know why the figure of 45% is being banded about in the media. It's time most of you started reading beyond the headlines and started waking up to what's going on around you, instead of vilifying someone who is explaining what's really happening to you. Seeing that you all seem to believe everything you read on a headline, the following quote is from the RTE website recently: Currently, 4 in 10 people in the Republic of Ireland have received one dose of a vaccine, while 2 in 10 are fully vaccinated. Now as far as I know 2 out of 10 is still 20%, unless in Ireland it can mean whatever you want it to be. Case rested (for now)"
You sound like the little boy who ran home with the ball when he was losing the match.

Why are you finding this so difficult to understand, 45% of the eligible population are fully vaccinated. No vaccine has yet been approved for under 18s.

Replying To DUALSUPPORT:  "Thanks very much for taking the time to reply to my questions SaffronDon. I watched the documentaries and read books about the troubles but I feel the best way to find out is to ask people who lived through it, I also did the taxi tours in Belfast and Derry. From the outside I do think it's important for more Catholics to be involved with the PSNI for fairness between the communities. Those were terrible incidents you told about it, something nobody should have to go through. I hope your cousin made a full recovery. I always felt myself when I was younger those loyalist up north were just bitter bigots, until I was at mass 1 Sunday a few years back and our Priest was giving a sermon on forgiveness and he spoke about Gordon Wilson and his campaign for peace in Northern Ireland after his daughter was killed in Enniskillen. I looked him up and read about him and I was in awe of The Wilson's story and what incredible people they were and are. Anyway while I would love to see an United Ireland and the 6 counties will always be Ireland to me but the most important thing is a peaceful and good quality of life for the citizens in the North."
As someone from the 6 counties your comments are welcome and appreciated. You would be amazed how many people in the republic look on people from the 6 counties as being from a different country.

Replying To galwayford:  "Oliver Cromwell is a hero to the English. The same way as Michael Collins is here. I would respect that."
Don't think Michael Collins took part in wide scale slaughter of men women and children. Most of the atrocities committed by Cromwell was after the Irish forces were defeated. If that makes him a hero to the English that says a lot. Even Germany forbids any reference to Adolf Hitler, another mass murdeter.

Replying To Byanthon:  "From reading different reports ideas etc on Northern Ireland I do think people are badly out of touch. There is no chance of unionist/loyalists ever wanting to join an United Ireland. That is their choice and no amount of discussions /border poles will change that. The GAA in the north have done an unbelievable job in surviving during the troubles and you would be surprised how much the GAA would be looked down and mistrusted by unionist/loyalists."
On the contrary I believe people on this forum have a very good understanding of the situation. The days of "Ulster says no" are no more, this will be a slow process but the re-unification of our country is inevitable.

There has been 5,000 covid related deaths over 16 months, 3,100 of those in care home settings. Now with 67% of the population getting at least 1 vaccine dose, 45% fully vaccinated NPHET are projecting a worst case scenario of 2,170 deaths in a 3 month period, variants or not I think its pretty reasonable to think that's crazy. Now without resorting to childish insults can you try explain this madness. People aren't demanding 80k in croke park or a packed copper face Jack's any reasonable thinking person understands it baby steps when reopening but the lack of ambition from government and NPHET is quite galling at this stage."]There is not 45 % fully vaccinated , this is the sort of bull that's peddled around here . Lies ."]Paul Reid just announced on the RTE news that 45% are fully vaccinated. Obviously understanding data and statistics is not your strong point.

Fantastic foitballer, every county wishes they had a Lee Keegan. Winning an All Ireland doesn't define a great career, there are lots of average footballers walking about with All-Ireland medals in their pockets.

You seem to forget the results of the 1918 election , a democratic vote over- ruled by the Brits. The treaty was passed because the British threatened wholesale slaughter of it was turned down.

GAA President - Jarlath Burns - 4 Like(s)

Replying To points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet:  "More to do with identity than religion. I went to a Catholic grammar, Omagh CBS, and there was very little / no formal religion in the school. No morning assembly or prayer (and they had morning prayer at the local state grammar), and religion was not even taught at O or A level. In a survey in our O-level class in the 80s, only 2 lads out of the 30 in our class still even said they were Catholic. But what they did teach us was Irish history and culture though - Gaelic games, the Walter Macken trilogy as novels in junior years, strong emphasis on Irish language and history. They imbued us with pride in our history and identity at a time when the forces of the state - political, military and media - were ranged against us. I am forever grateful to the decent men and women of Omagh CBS who taught us to walk tall in the world. Apart from a vocal minority of born-agains, the vast majority of people up North don't give a stuff abut religion. But neither main community wants their kids brought up British, or Irish."
You obviously have a problem with the whole religion thing, I went to Omagh CBS in the 90's and I have an O'level in religion to prove it. Your statement that only 2 out of 30 identified as catholic is for the birds. From my experience I am pretty sure that everyone in the class identified as catholic. I think mabey the PBP boys have brain washed you.

Couldn't dis-agree more. Mayo people are the nicest people you could meet, and I have met quite a few of them.

Why Do Kerry "Supporters" Not Go To Support There Team In Croke Park? - 3 Like(s)

Replying To AfricanGael:  "Less than an hour on top of what though, as the crow flies Croke Park is closer to Glasgow than Portmagee in Kerry. Doesn't seem to have done Kerry any harm over the years, they know their county are behind them in every corner of the world whereas a team like Tyrone are relatively newcomers. By the time Tyrone won even their first provincial title which is less than 20 years ago, Kerry had probably around 70 provincial titles won and over 30 All-Irelands won at that stage so I wouldn't be getting too worried about them."
Tyrone won their first Senior provincial title in 1956.
