Derry and Donegal are through to the semi-finals of the Ulster U20 football championship following last night’s results in the northern province.
Derry were in dominant form again last night as they handed Cavan their first defeat of the competition on 1-26 to 2-13 scoreline at Kingspan Breffni, where Johnny McGuckian netted the winners’ goal after seven minutes.
After a draw, a win and a loss in that order, the Breffni lads now face either Fermanagh or Down at home in the quarter-finals next Wednesday (7.30pm).
The other quarter-final will see Tyrone hosting Armagh on the same evening after both sides won their respective outings yesterday.
Tyrone recorded a comfortable 2-24 to 0-10 win against Antrim at O’Neill Park, while Armagh were 3-16 to 2-14 winners over neighbours Monaghan at the Box-It Athletic Grounds, where Diarmuid O’Rourke and Conall McGeough hit crucial second-half goals for the hosts.
Fermanagh welcome Down to Brewster Park this evening (7.30pm) to determine which side will face Cavan in the last eight race of The Irish News Cup race.
