Tyrone have been dealt a blow for their 2024 season with the news that experienced campaigner Mattie Donnelly is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Multiple reports emerged today (Saturday) that Donnelly tore his posterior cruciate ligament as well as breaking his Tibia while playing with his native Trillick in the All-Ireland Kilmacud 7’s last weekend.
The injury is set to see the two-time All-Star out of action for nine months to a year if he undergoes surgery and six months if he opts not to.
Donnelly was in terrific form for the Red Hands this past season, with highlights including a hat-trick of points against both Monaghan and Armagh in the championship.
His injury rules him out of Trillick’s upcoming Tyrone SFC bid and could see him missing his county’s entire 2024 campaign.
