The senior hurling championship commenced this evening, while there was also crunch action in Round Seven of the national football league in the afternoon.
Croke Park provided the setting for the long-awaited throw-in to Championship 2020, when Dublin entertained Laois in a fascinating Leinster SHC quarter-final at 6pm. The Dubs were seeking revenge after the O'Moore men stunned them in an unforgettable All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final 15 months ago.
Prior to that, at 2pm, promotion and relegation issues were settled in Divisions Two and Four of the FL, while Kerry had a chance to capture the league title for the first time since 2017 when they welcomed Donegal to Tralee.
In a congested Division Two, Roscommon - already practically assured of promotion - completed their campaign away to Cavan, while Armagh and Westmeath were also hoping to secure a place in the top flight as they closed their campaigns out away to Clare and Kildare respectively. Laois were away to already-relegated Fermanagh.
There was a straight shoot-out for promotion between Wexford and Wicklow in Division Four, where Limerick could also claim a place in the third tier if they prevailed in Sligo. Antrim, who were still mathematically in the promotion chase, took on Waterford in Haggardstown.Tweet
