Waterford are relegated to Division 1B after Tipperary beat them by 2-24 to 1-23 at Walsh Park.

The hosts led this rescheduled encounter by 1-17 to 1-9 at the break but – in keeping with the overarching theme of the weekend – it proved to be a game of two halves thanks to the inclement conditions beating a tattoo across the island.

Making his first start of the year for the winners, Hurler of the Year John McGrath mined 1-4, his goal coming in the first half, while substitute Gearóid O’Connor delivered the All-Ireland champions’ second three-pointer.

Na Deise plundered the first five points and Seán Walsh’s 24th-minute goal had them eight to the good at the break.

Tipperary assumed control when the action resumed, O’Connor hitting the all-important goal on 58 minutes as they secured their top-flight status.
