Loughmore-Castleiney are a win away from back-to-back Tipperary senior hurling championship titles after seeing off Holycross/Ballycahill by 1-18 to 0-15 in Thurles this afternoon.

John McGrath struck 0-9 over the hour for the holders while his brother Noel chipped in with four points, as they won out by six in the end for the club to keep on course for a senior hurling and football championship double in the Premier County.

Ciaran McCormack’s early goal saw Loughmore establishing an early 1-1 to 0-1 lead, but they’d go scoreless from open play for 25 minutes in this semi-final clash and needed scores late in the first-half from John McGrath to edge a 1-9 to 0-10 half-time lead.

Ciaran Connolly, Noel McGrath and Ciaran McGrath sailed over scores to increase their side’s lead to 1-15 to 0-13 in the second-half.

Robbie Ryan pulled back a superb point for Holycross but it wouldn’t be enough to ignite the comeback, as their opponents progressed to a Dan Breen Cup decider date against either Nenagh Eire Og or Drom & Inch who square off tomorrow at Semple Stadium (4pm).
