Clare and Tipperary got their respective first victories in this year’s Munster U20 hurling championship yesterday evening.
Having drawn against Cork in their provincial opener last time out, Clare came away from Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field with a 2-18 to 0-17 win against hosts Waterford.
Fred Hegarty’s penalty saw the Banner lads leading by 1-8 to 0-9 at half-time and the points of Jack O’Neill in the second-half, along with a James Organ goal in the 55th minute, saw the visitors winning out comfortably in the end.
Meanwwhile at Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Tipp bounced back from their defeat to Limerick with 1-20 to 2-11 win against Cork.
Paddy McCormack’s goal after two minutes marked the perfect start for the visitors and they’d go on to run up a 1-10 to 0-5 lead by the halfway stage.
Senior star Darragh McCarthy helped to keep the scoreboard ticking over for the Premier County after the change of ends and, while Cork pulled back late goals via Barry O’Flynn and Mark O’Brien, Tipp would see out the victory.
