Armagh and Westmeath did not manage to get into the All Ireland Quarter finals this year but still managed to get an All Star. After the year that Diarmuid Murtagh had this year in both the National League and championship I think he was very unlucky not to get an All Star. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 962 - 29/10/2026 10:05:18 2698833 Link 3 |

I definitely agree with your sentiment but Diarmuid had a few things running against him, the biggest is the weight attached to those who make the latter stages and add to that the amount of high quality forwards now on show with the new rules so the competition for those slots, especially the front line, is huge. No Armagh or Westmeath forward will make it into that top 6 of the pitch (as good as Conaty is) and we just didn't have anyone who did enough to get nominated for the back 6. There wasn't even room for Paudi Clifford. Disappointing to be the only provincial winner with no All Star and bet better opposition than Westmeath to win that provincial. We needed to win one of those All Ireland series games for Diarmuid to have a realistic chance unfortunately.

Couple of players that got the All Star are probably fortunate (Burns, Wallace) but I don't think we can say Diarmuid deserves to get in ahead of Daragh Beirne, Kobe McDonald or Clifford in the full forward line. Diarmuid had a great year and if we make a quarter final after winning Connaught, he probably gets in. But in general, the full forward line will usually represent the 2 teams that make the All Ireland final. If we win one of those knockout games, he gets another game in a quarter final and then his scoring numbers are even higher. Deserved the nomination but just pipped by the Kerry and Mayo full forward line which was inevitable. Rossfan93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 108 - 29/10/2026 11:20:15 2698843 Link 3 |
