Replying To Lockjaw:  "While it's obviously disappointing from a Donegal supporter perspective, we can only wish Finnbarr the best in his adventure down under. When opportunities like this come your way in life, you simply have to take them or else you'll always have that "What if" thought in your head for the rest of your days. We were lucky the AFL never paoched Murphy. I can recall rumours about that possibility when Michael was younger."
You're right surely Lock, I wish him the very best. It was like a punch in the stomach when I heard it this morning but when I got over that I can only hope the lad succeeds there. I'm sure he'll be back in the green and gold before too long, he's only a pup and please god has a long career ahead of him. I'd say it was Murphys choice not to head down under more than anything else, he seems like the kind of person who gets a nosebleed if he's away from his beloved county for too long.

That's the spirit!!
Why no Langan, is that injury he came off with a few weeks back worse than it looked?

I think Langan is a fair few years too old at this stage. Im nearly i sure remember when Gallagher was over us, Eoin ban and a few of them went down for trials or whatever but nothing came off it. Langan would be around that age bracket.

I remember Niall Moyna telling the story at a function in Letterkenny one night of how they took him out to the big open fields in North County Dublin to help him get over his home sickness when he moved to DCU first!

The GAA will be under pressure with all this AFL rubbish. What a superb talent, going down under.

Unfortunately, there's virtually nothing to be done if we want to keep the amateur nature of our game intact

According to some , his injury is worse than initially thought. That could be hearsay though. Hope it is.

I'd well believe it too. Poor Murph!

Replying To panamasam:  "Bad news from a Donegal perspective but an exciting adventure to look forward to for Finbarr himself. Best of luck to him. I wonder when initial contact was made with Finbarr. Personally speaking I don't think he was near the levels this year he set the previous year. The Under 20 semi final and Cork game come to mind in particular.....was this a factor? Outstanding player and a huge loss regardless but we've got away light compared to the likes of Kerry and even Mayo with Kobe and Mullin."
Eh what Donegal player was at the levels of the previous year? Strange one to pick out the young man as if he dipped solo.

Can we all take a deep breath here. McGuinness is going nowhere, for next year at least. For now, we've lost one of the best young players in the country and I'm as sad about that as the next man. Chances are he'll be back, maybe sooner, maybe later. Langan will likely be grand. We don't want him slogging it out in the mckenna cup or even the early part of the league in any event. Who knows who Jim might bring into the panel or who might progress and step up another gear next year. Thompson should be getting back up to the levels by next year, he's definitely not near ready for the scrap heap yet. Murphy still has plenty to offer in whatever capacity that might be. Malone will improve again next year I've no doubt. Last year didn't work out for whatever reason but we're still the bookmakers second favourites to land Sam and they're usually not a million miles off the mark. Let's just see where it takes us.

If Langan is injured and out for 6 months, it could be a blessing in disguise. If it means he can revover and rehab behind the scenes and get up to speed for Championship it could be a good thing. I don't think we need to be playing the likes of himself, Murphy, McHugh, in the League that much, and certainly not in the McKenna Cup.

You would be correct in saying it was "strange" in picking Finbarr out after the championship ended but this wasn't the case. My post was a reactionary response to yesterday morning's reports about this news. Like many Donegal supporters I turned white when I read it and it got me reflecting about the summer. The fact that I turned white shows the esteem I hold him as a player and the great sense of loss we feel by losing such a massive talent. I did put up a couple of lengthy posts here about what went wrong months ago but they didn't post. I could only really pick Murphy, Langan (even not 100%), Mogan and maybe Jason McGee who reached the required levels.
