The 2010s was a non vintage decade. 03-09 was the last great era. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 10065 - 28/07/2026 18:13:00 2687874 Link 0 |

6 in a row never be done again. Teams will struggle even to do back to back as Kerry proved this year.

98 to 01 was the last great era. Before that it was 64 to 66.

Don't agree but if you think so surely there were other "non vintage" eras for teams to go 5 or 6, but I suppose Ciarraigh were unlucky to come up against the "generational one in a row" Offaly teaming '82?

Went into transition after the 2010 quarter final. To get back to the final in 2015 says a lot about the 2010s. Non vintage.

The current Kerry team are to one dimensional, everything is telegraphed to Clifford, Kerry and he have lost more finals then they and will win because of their reliance. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4541 - 28/07/2026 22:59:22 2687922 Link 1 |

You're way off with that statement. Football in the 20 teens wasn't football compared to the 00s or the present day football. How many of that Dublin team would get on a top team of today or back in the 00s? They couldn't even kick points from outside the 21 yard line. They handpassed their way into the square. Not blaming Dublin, teams let them do it and the more they won the more scared other teams got.

Tyrone 03-09 and Kerry 04-09 were great teams. Kerry 21-26 are not a great team. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 10065 - 29/07/2026 09:35:53 2687943 Link 3 |

The 1998-2001 Galway team won 2 AIs playing fast Football with emphasis on foot, then came the soccer style blanket defence with its fisted soccer hand passing - the new rules have improved Gaelic football to an extent but still too much hand passing to my liking.

Agree on the hand passing and yes that Galway team were very good and very entertaining (Paul Conroy r.i.p was a member). On entertainment if you have the name of an early riser you can stay in bed all day. Donegal got a terrible name for boring football in 2011 but people forget they played very entertaining football winning the 2012 final. Likewise Tyrone were unfairly labeled in 2003 afte the semi win over Kerry but they played great ball afyer that including superb football on route to winning both 05 and 08 finals. The 2025 qfinal v Armagh showed how devastating Kerry could be when they go after a game. They havent done that since, as they didnt have to as everyone stood off them after that. Then Mayo stepped up and gave them a challenge they werent ready for. If you look at Cliffords heat map for most of his matched this season, he stays in one corner of the field. For Kerry to unleash their full attacking power, they need a game plan that uses 3/4 scorers, with Clifford roaming the entire attacking half so they are less predicable. They will also have to demand some tackling from their forwards. Clifford is more Lebron James than Michael Jordan. Doesnt do defence and all attacks must go through him on his terms. Playing the way they are playing, CLifford will get the scoring record (like Lebron) and play a long time (as he isnt asked to play both ways) but wont win as many All Irelands as other great players. Kerry and Clifford need to decide which is more important - CLifford winning individual awards or the team winning all irelands. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 2036 - 19/08/2026 18:40:54 2690497 Link 1 |
