Amen. It's so hard to get there, but when you do you must make it count. They just didn't. A shame for such a talented bunch. Sigh.

Ideally, I'd tweak senior relegation to pull 6 clubs into the mix, the bottom 4, and 2 worst third place records. A team like Barna possibly doesn't deserve it's senior football 2027 ticket, solely off the back of one round robin win over newly promoted Caltra, and ideally should have to do a little bit more to retain senior status in 2027. From a fixture congestion viewpoint, these two worst record 3rd placed teams will be involved in preliminary qfinals too, although that will in all likelihood amount to a 'one and done' exercise, for the two sides in question.

At a few games and watched a few, I think the quality was poor really. Did not see Salthill game. Talk of Tuam being contenders was well off, very rare for a team without at least 1 good county man get to the final. Corofin have slipped a long way but still retain great football know how and are in good shape fitness wise. Not one player has stood out as someone who should be in with the country with Corofin, Milltown and Tuam having probably the oldest squads. If Mountbellew had a top manager they could do ok. giveitlong (Galway) - Posts: 1336 - 16/08/2026 21:09:06 2690099 Link 0 |

Kilannin vs Claregalway - prediction: Claregalway by 4, they win by 6. Conor Flaherty playing a key role for the balchies. Corofin vs Mountbellew/Moylough - prediction: Corofin by 5, they win 4. Ross Coen, Liam Silke, Dylan McHugh and Jason Leonard impressive. Caltra vs Milltown - prediction: Milltown by 5, they draw. Alan Naughton standing out for Caltra with Liam Costello and Eoin Mannion playing good. SHKK vs Bearna na Forbocha - prediction: SHKK by 9, win by double that. Didn't think Salthill would go as hard as that today, but knew they'd win comfortably, didn't get to watch the game or highlights either. From what I've seen in reports Dan O'Flaherty, Rob Finnerty, Brian Conlon and Rob Waltzer. Naomh Anna/Leitir Mór vs Monivea/Abbey - prediction: Monivea Abbey by 6, they win by 1 with Glenn Kelly impressing once again. Dunmore MacHales vs Moycullen - prediction: Moycullen by 5, they win by 4. Seen the 2nd half with listening to the 1st on the radio. Niall Walsh, Michael Maughan and the McDonagh's impressive for Moycullen with Shane McGrath, Pádraig Costello and Conor Gleeson having decent games. St James's vs Oughterard - prediction: St James's by 6, they lose by 8. Bit of surprise result considering Tuam bet Oughterard by 10 points in R1. 2 games where James's throw away 8 point leads. Tuam Stars vs Annaghdown - prediction: Tuam Stars by 8, they lose by 1. Was at the game, Tuam well below bar with just Shay McGlinchey having a decent performance however Damien Comer was top drawer with his physicality in winning and maintaining the ball and taking his scores ending up with a tally 2 - 3. Any young players stand out over the weekend? Only saw the highlights of a few of the games. McGlinchey looked fairly good. Surely he has to be the main contender to replace Conroy whenever he decides to retire? Youhavetoreallywantit (Galway) - Posts: 1 - 16/08/2026 22:24:11 2690115 Link 1 |

Just to fix here it was Thomas Gleeson that played decent for Dunmore not Pádraig Costello and that Olan Kelly and Eoin Newell also had decent games for Annaghdown.

Maybe Ross Coen but on that front of unearthing players and this is only my own opinion but its been a poor championship so far but that has happened other years and it took off from QF stage

Only caught three games .. Corofin and Moycullen tipping along , doing the business .. Comer had a field day against a poor Stars side.. If only he could get a free run of games for the next year!! Belclare98 (Galway) - Posts: 48 - 17/08/2026 09:31:04 2690138 Link 1 |

The gap betweeen the big 3 is massive and only getting bigger. Moycullen Corofin & SK miles ahead of the rest. Every year there is talk of Tuam coming but they are as far away as ever. Any young players catch the eye? Most teams are happy once they avoid relegation say Barna for example once they bet caltra in 1st game they are contend as they are pretty much safe and than get hammered by their "rivals" SK. Every year when you see Comer perform like that you say to your self if only he could stay fully fit for Galway what an absolute machine he is and always delivers for Annaghdown when available. There's no point in having Damo fit and not kicking the ball into him anyone at the Annaghdown game yesterday can tell you that the ball was KICKED into him at every opportunity won't happen playing for galway

The Annaghdown manager said as much in the interview afterwards - "He's not a bad auld player when you actually kick it into him."
