Fágfaidh muid ag a sin é. We've strayed well off topic. I'd be hard-pressed to argue that misspelled Irish names are part of an Anti GAA Agenda.
One thing that might be closer to the original topic, is the impact of the best ladies footballers going to play in the AFLW.
This issue has been spoken about on the men's side of course, but the numbers going are lower, as the AFL standard is very high as it's been in existence for well over 100 years and professional for decades. It's harder for lads to make the grade as a result.
Since the ladies game is relatively new in Australia, the depth is much less than the men's game. As a result, our ladies footballers are at a relatively much higher standard and the opportunity is there for a huge number of them to be successful and make teams. I believe almost 25% of their All-Australian team for 2025 were Irish players. A good number of Irish played for the teams in the grand final.
It's a brilliant opportunity for the players to play sport professionally, and while the money wouldn't be hectic yet, it's a challenge a lot of young athletes would love to take on. The lifestyle element would also be a big pull, I'm sure.
Ladies football has grown massively in this country over the past 20 years. The amount of girls playing the sport underage has rocketed. The question is, will losing the best talent stifle the game in Ireland? If so, I don't think anything can be done about it anyway. Some players will choose to go and the best of luck to them. As the game grows in Australia and more women start playing, the level domestically may rise, which might reduce the demand for Irish players slightly, but that would take some time.

Sure most of the people misspelling, names, clubs, village and clubs as Gaeilge are supposed to be 'our own' Sa mbaile sé GBFM is measa le seo!

I logged in to post a once-off match prediction. I went looking for views on the match, I noticed a few incentive comments being sent in the direction of an unfortunate poster it seems. OTB do some coverage of club gaa but how much is that relevant to a lot of their audience? Womens soccer will get more as tied into coverage of mens european cups.
newstalk does have pieces on horse racing. theyve a few podcasts on otb and john duggan talks plenty about racing on weekkend show.

A little disappointed to hear the full fixture list for 1a hurling but it seems Dublin Clare is the only game taking place in 1b.

its a valid point. the structure of sport across the country by and large is terrble. not the GAAs fault of course but it hasnt helped things and rules for years like rule 27 even if abolished 50+ years ago will still have some hold in some form or another to some degree even if not directly...
so you can criticise the GAA. It isnt blaming the GAA which is a very different thing

His point could apply to any sport anywhere really.
Im far more bothered by the vast numbers of Irish youngsters (and younsters all over the world) who'll never get the opportunity to play and enjoy hurling at a good level because of where they were born.

Outside of rte radio 1 GAA news on regular sports bulletins seems to get very hard to get a mention, seems a huge push on league of Ireland soccer every bulletin and premier league transfer news?! Of course some golf tournament always gets mentioned, horse racing results seem to have disappeared from those bulletin also

Comparing Ireland with Argentina is hilarious though. Uruguay is a closer match to Ireland. Ken was one of the journalists who pushed for Stephen Kenny who ended up knocking Ireland down making it harder to qualify as they are third seeds now no longer second. Again instead of looking at themselves and taking responsibility they go on and make excuses.

In fairness Mayo's win and homecoming got Italia90 style coverage on RTE, including the first 10-15mins of the Sunday night main evening 9pm news. I think if we were Argentina, and did win the World Cup, the coverage wouldn't have been any more fulsome.

Don't really watch rte outside of sport but their gaa coverage has always been brilliant imo,albeit they could do with shaking up the commentators at this stage.
