Very tough on Donal Casey having to retire from all football at just 24. Good interview with him in observer. Best wishes to him

Jeasus that is a rough one, but the alternative is bleak. A lucky man to be even standing up straight. Hopefully he will get into coaching and focus on that, god knows Leitrim needs every lad available to keep the game alive in the county.

As I suspected, a very big anti-hurling element in Leitrim football. It must be getting to them that them hurlers are going way better at the moment. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2590 - 29/06/2026 14:57:36 2682915 Link 0 |

Says the man that calls grown men 'little hurlers'. We see you.

Good luck. No lies in that article. You'd be ran outta most gaa clubs in Leitrim if you were advocating for their players to go off playing hurling. You'll not change the mindsets here, Mary's and Manor may have an agreement with the dual players but doubt it extends outside the town

Well it won't change unless the other two clubs that were going get back up and running again. And shur what support in reality do they have from HQ anyhow? There would be little to no hurling scene were it not for a few men who came to live in Leitrim who were originally from hurling strongholds. And how could you even look to develop the game with a games promotion officer who is only available to schools 1 day a week?

'Little hurlers' used as term of endearment, not of scorn. They get enough of that it seems within the borders of the county. I have never seen Leitrim hurlers play but really admire the effort they are making and the success that they have achieved over the past couple of seasons. Onwards and upwards!

Square_B and Gaelsboy, thank you for letting us know the real situation. It is so disappointing to hear that that is the attitude towards hurling there.

Nah it wasn't, you were being demeaning. We see you.

What ever about the attidute at local level, it will never change unless there's support at HQ (i.e. Croke Park). I seen an advert up for a Hurling co-ordinator before Christmas but I have no idea if the job filled or not. I suspect it wasn't either that the appointment must be kept a secret. You'd need 2 people at a minimum to cover the ground needed but let's be honest, unless more clubs are formed, it would be a tough one to sustain.
