Replying To Mayonman:  "Dubln were a class a head of us at the time.

We did miss a penalty and had a simple 2 on 1 for another goal all around the time Comer scored the goal. It would have been interesting if we got the 3 goals in a couple of minutes. That would rattle most teams.

However that Dublin team were class. I have no doubt they would still have reeled us in...... and then it would really have hurt!"
Dublin certainly feared Galway at that stage. Was third clash that year.

I thought manager got short straw before Joyce came in. Took a lot of flak but was going right way. Took a few years for PJ to get back to that level?

Replying To Maroon26:  "Couldn't agree more! Madness for management to leave a man that wasn't fully fit taking frees and not make a change.....i was at the game and its a game i haven't watch back and I don't think I'll ever get over it.....i can't imagine how the players feel."
Bit of a misconception around the frees that day. Understandable that Galway fans have never watched, or wanted to watch it back

After main free taker Finnerty went off, Walsh missed 4 "placed balls", two frees in the first half which he should've gotten. However the two in the second half were marks, which he won because of that old stupid rule whereby you'd get a free kick at goal for catching a 20m pass

So nobody else could've taken those kicks. They were both 40m out and from the left, which Cahair o'Kane explained in an article last week is basically a dead zone for scoring in Croke park, you very rarely see 2 pointers from there and people often turn down shots from that side into the hill. So while they looked bad at the time, there's probably some mitigating circumstances in hindsight. Hobbling with an injury obviously not helping either

Replying To yew_tree:  "Very lazy analysis of Mayo games yet again this week. The usual "chaos" mantra mentioned but no in depth detail on players like they do with other games.

Then Pat Spillane on the Indo podcast says David Clifford has now joined Dean Rock as the all time top scorer. No he has not. Cillian O Connor by my count is still top scorer with Cooper, McManus and Rock following. I know Pat means well and I like him but surly he can get his facts right."
Chaos! They are like children. How long have they been rabbiting on about this meaningless concept as it apllies to football?

Yeah, Kevin Walsh a decent coach but he could only have taken us so far with his brand of football.

He's now with the Cork management and will hopefully be a part of defeating them this week.

Replying To systematic:  "If Rob Finnerty played full game we may indeed have won, so that could be street smarts.

That 2018 game was unreal if you were at it. Comer the bear in the square, I think Clucko still has nightmares about him"
I wasnt at it but i remember it being a fairly straightforward victory for dublin tbh.

As for cluxton im sure his 9 all Ireland medals will somewhat help him recover from the trauma of Comer being in the square.

1. Niall McDonnell (Louth)
2. Tadhg Baker (Westmeath)
3. Peter Teague (Tyrone)
4. Cian Hernon (Galway)
5. Ronan Wallace (Westmeath)
6. Dara McDonnell (Louth)
7. Enda Hession (Mayo)
8. Conn Kilpatrick (Tyrone)
9. James Maguire (Louth)
10. Con O'Callaghan (Dublin)
11. Sam Mulroy (Louth)
12. Shane Walsh (Galway)
13. Jack McCarron (Monaghan)
14. David Clifford (Kerry)
15. Steven Sherlock (Cork)

Replying To tireoghainabu:  "I cannot understand for the life of me why teams when they win a turnover in their own half insist on slow lateral movement up to the D giving the opposition time to re- group. I know not every team has a David Clifford but I think Tyrone need to throw caution to the wind on Saturday to have any chance."
If Tyrone had another Kennedy or Kilpatrick for the edge of the square Kerry would be worried. Even breaking the ball down to runners coming in.

I see the All-Ireland minor fotball final between Cork and Tyrone is fixed for Newbridge. This is a great competition and you would imagine the teams whio make the final would be rewarded with a day out on the hallowed turf of Croke park. Why did they change the old format of bothh minor finals being played before the senior finals in Croke park??

I don't think there are any qualms in Tyrone and Kerry about Kerry being favourites. Tyrone will be quietly confident regardless. Many talking about the other 3 games being 50-50. Tyrone v Kerry is the one that could surprise many and end up going to extra time.

In fairness that was probably as strong a squad as Dublin fielded in all that era, Fitzsimmons, McManamon, Flynn, MDMA and Costello all came off the bench and Bernard was an unused sub!

I think it's a good thing that they're played as standalone fixtures. Some reasons I posted on here before:
- There was often an eerie atmosphere in Croke Park for long stretches of the minor games, until the ground eventually filled up at the end.
- Unless one of the minor teams was also in the senior final, it could often lack the passion from the crowd as very few in attendance had any skin in the game.
- There was also the fact that supporters from the competing minor counties received fewer tickets under the previous structure.
- Having a standalone game enables far more from the counties to attend.
- There was a great crowd and a brilliant atmosphere at the Galway vs Mayo final a few years ago, likewise when Monaghan were in the final and Tyrone against Kerry had a brilliant atmosphere last year. We've had the same in the hurling, most notably when Offaly brought a massive crowd, and Waterford last year too.

Those counties would only have gotten a fraction of the number of tickets, if their game was played before the senior final.

Armagh out of the c ship now and well beaten by the better side in killarney. Six days unravelled our chances of winning two in three years but its been great following them and the ulster is still well worth winning.Hoping for an ulster win but with donegal and ourselves both out the chances are reduced.Tyrone can win it outright and have proven that in recent years but saturdays match is a big ask for a county who are the most consistent and successful not just in ulster but in ireland under age in recent years, which is bound to lead to further adult success. We will settle for the supporting the ladies who i feel can go very close this year.

You should call that the "unlikely lads Allstars"

All starts are picked on performances from here on - all previous form is ignored.
Clifford is the only one from that lot who will get an all star.

Sunday be close to sellout. Our bandwagon has rehitched!

Hopefully the Louth young fellas don't hang around after their match.

There is one team that the current set up favours above all others and that is Cork. Reach a Provincial Final and guarantee a R1 home game but the biggest advantage by far is avoiding meeting Kerry again. They can not meet again until a possible Final. That is an advantage not afforded to any other team.
