Replying To Southsligoman:  "Champo baby.. we have had some luck so far!

Canice back is huge. Mullen too.

D bould mcgurn is a typical modern day gym footballer. Can kick a point strong and very athletic. A guy who lacks real talent but like gary neville has worked hard on his physique and has made the most of his ability. He needs marking. They have another forward love he is tidy.

A good team. Sligo by 2."
The sooner this purgatory is over the better to be honest, a dreadful year no matter how far they stumble on in this competition

As we edge closer to the Fermanagh game part of me feels they could just stumble over the line. Fermanagh were shocking when we played them in the league winning by 7, and they clearly have improved. The home win against Wexford in particular being a turning point for them. If it is true that we're getting some of the injured lads back for tomorrow then it's a very even keel game in my view. This may well be delusional optimism but neither Fermanagh or Sligo are the same teams they were last year. Bookies place a 3 point advantage with the home side, which probably is about right. Jones and McGurn are the danger men up front which is where we miss the likes of Lyons.

It'd be some stroke of luck to stumble into a semi final if we do pull it off...and it'll paper over the cracks a bit for management to get them another year, but we may thank the luck of the draw every time if we do.

I agree with you sligoman. 'Stumble' is the word! Pace is hard bet and we have it. Strongish team picked. Spillane on the bench can have a massive impact. Like his dad his speed athleticism and score taking could be a match winner. Win this and we are in a semi final in croker. As Obama said yes we can!

You are correct. Pace is hard bet but in my opinion we don't have it. Spillane for the super sub role he plays does ok when he comes on but he would need to start thinking about playing for 70 minutes and then he would be a lot more beneficial to the team. I would be happy to win tomorrow but equally so I wont be too disappointed if we lose

Abysmal stuff, 7 points after 50 minutes is even worse than had expected.

Southsligoman.

I'd agree that most gaelic footballers are athletes now, due to the demands of the game and level of training the do.
On every county team there is a few players who may be relying on their athleticism/pace to play on the team however think Darragh McGurn may have a bit of "talent " now scoring 1-12 and 6 two pointers against Armagh might be good indicator that he has some football to go with his athleticism, as not every player does that!

That Sligo performance today was one of the worst Ive seen in 35 years.
Physically dominated, passive, no drive, no direction, slow transitions, no style of play. Apologies Im incorrect on the last point. They have a style of play; circle around the arc slowly with zero penetration. Before anyone says but, but, injuries, Im not having it.
This team and management are trying to play a style of football that died 2 years. They havent adapted to the new game where fast transitions are king and controlled set plays creating 1v1s along the 2pt arc are order of the day when you can't break quickly. Sligo got joy early on along their right wing today with Lally and McLoughlin combining to create these 1v1s but inexplicably was then switched or moved himself to a more left side position and this connection died.
We looked weak and leaden footed along our back line and lost most 1v1 battles when Fermanagh isolated our defenders.
We had a kick out strategy in 1st half of sending 2 players wide right who were never going to receive a kick out from a right footed goalkeeper. Fermanagh didnt bother covering, Devaney goes long and Fermanagh had multiple overload on breaks.
It was actually a release today to get away from having to watch this for 6 months . Roll on the club championship.
If the management team have anything about them they'll say, you know what we are out of our depth and step away for the good of Sligo football.
There were no green shoots of optimism to be seen all year save for the Westmeath game. It was a general journey down hill from there culminating in today's game.
There's no doubting Dessie and Eamons passion for Sligo football can never be questioned, but the players and supporters deserve better than what has been served up all year. And these comments aren't coming from a loyalist of the alternative ticket of whom there have been plenty of quiet chirping and rubbing their hands in the background as witnessed at the Tipp game. It's easy to throw mud standing on the ditch. I don't know where we go from here. Its obvious that div 4 beckons.
The only caveat on today's result is that Fermanagh look to be an impressive team with pace, height , power all over the pitch and more importantly a plan. They could have scored a goal on each of their last 3 or 4 attacks but chose to keep their powder dry for bigger challenges ahead.
