Provincial Final Replays - Good Idea Or Bad Idea?

Replying To edu:  "Donegal v Armagh in the Ulster final this year came very close to being level after extra time If it had finished level and there was a replay then that would have meant Donegal would have played 5 games in the Ulster Championship."
So you implicitly opt for "result on the day"?

Result on the day yes. In the pre mentioned scenario Donegal would have played 5 games as opposed to about half the teams in the provincials having had only one game. Was Jim Mcguinness not on about how tough and compact Donegals Ulster campaign was and then to throw the potential of a final replay into the mix--well that might a bit too much. Anyways after all the Provincial finals are not knock out in relation to the All Ireland series.

Surely on a day like today the GAA must be thinking what are we doing.
Westmeath Dublin on a new day in Croke Park next week would have drawn a huge crowd after the excitement today. Same as Monaghan vs Armagh. Everyone would have been delighted to have another day out in Clones on Ulster Final day. Trying to fit everything into a tight schedule instead of playing the 70 minutes and then a replay.
Hopefully we see a change to this rule for next year.

It's total madness. Gaa probably think they're doing the right thing but in years to come this short sighted thinking will be seen for what it is.
Even the Munster u20 final last week going to penalties. Imagine the interest a replay would have bought after the excitement and quality of that game. You couldn't but that publicity and feel good factor

I'm sure Kieran mc Geeney would love to play 5 matches this year to arrive at the same point Kerry have, after their tough munster campaign of 2 games?? They are amateur players who make plenty enough sacrifices, no need for provincial replays.

Yea, and maybe the World Cup Final, the Champions League Final, Super Bowl and all other Finals should go to replays. What we need is a calender with 100 weeks in it.

What about the publicity and feelgood factor after a game going to extra time and penalties? Galway beating Armagh after penalties into the Canal End was an epic.

Was at it but would never class a shoot out win as epic in Gaelic football. Would much prefer if that game was won in extra time.

Soccer teams who reach champions league final could play between 50/60 matches a season. That's why they don't have room for replays. Gaa players play less than half that amount

We'd all prefer if it was won in extra-time, but if wasn't. I was also at the game and wanted a conclusion on the day rather than a replay.

Replying To legendzxix:  "Provincial final replays seems to be gaining a bit of momentum at the moment for both football and hurling. In hurling that would mean Kilkenny and Cork waiting 5 weeks for an All Ireland semi final when no replays occur. Are provincial final replays likely to gain support?"
Replays are not feasible with the condensed season, and 20 minutes extra time is a bit much.

If sides are level at 70 minutes, play 10 minutes of extra time, if still level, then next score wins and ends the game.
