On the forward play and lack of cohesion that a lot of people are seeing, from comments here and from pretty knowledgeable folks in the stand and terraces, it's clear there's so much more to do with our lads upfront and that they're capable of running up bigger scores with the talent we have there.
We've a lot going on in the loop / overlap options outside and just inside the arc; but it's the other training ground types of set plays and runs we need blocks of time put into with these lads.
Third man runs to punch through gaps and break the line. Kick pass isolation moves to try create some 1v1s - see some of the Dublin scores. Dummy switches and decoy runners to create lanes to attack. More diagonal cuts and backdoor cut creation. Overloads, with supporting defenders taking more scores etc etc. Other counties clearly have some training ground plays, each worth a few scores per game. We seem to still play ad hoc a fair bit of the time and overusing Finnerty won't always work. Nice to see Hernon coming forward and McHugh getting into scoring positions too but not pulling the trigger unfortunately.

I feel we are still conceding too much/giving up a lot of scoring chances. We have had our championship back 6 (maybe one spot up for debate) for most of the league - I know there is more to defending than your back 6 now, but it's a worry.

Overall, considering our away games and injury list, it's been a great league. Well done lads and drive on.

Looks very strong on paper to be fair but as you said a very big IF if fit and available especially 14 & 15. In terms of free taking who is on them Finnerty for inside the 45 for a left footer who is on right footer ones and long range ones?

I'd have Peter Cooke and Dessie as the icing on the cake

Tierney will be midfield, McDaid to wing forward. I think we will see Walsh.

I agree, we're too easy to score on. PJ should have been watching Arsenal rather than Man City last off season.

I wouldn't like to see the bill to fly the pair of them back

Both have been given fair chances. Cooke had an impact last year but couldn't give the commitment, conneely got many a chance and never thrived, mighty club players but it's a different ball game. Along with that neither are residing in the country so would be very difficult for them to play

Every county will tell you they have the same problem defensively, I'm more concerned with how many goal chances we've missed during the league. Another 3 easy enough chances missed on Sunday, Finnerty & McDonnacha have missed far more then they've scored.

Agree a brilliant league considering missing Thompson, Walsh, McDaid & Comer, this team won't let you down in the effort stakes.
