There are, but thats the level where we should be at and always were. I heard Boscos interview earlier and that's where the lads agree the want to be. He has a good blend of hurlers experienced and young and maybe some others will put their hands up in the coming county championships.
Let's hope the footballers can do us proud tomorrow and make it a double celebration. They will need to hit the boards running. No doubt Longford will tear into them as we seem to be capable of being caught flat footed particularly when playing away. We don't need to be chasing a 6 or 8 point lead

Well done to the senior hurlers on promotion. Back in division 2 where we should be. Will be some nice games there next year and aim will be to stay there. Onto the CR now. Hard luck to the minor hurlers, 7 points up against Antrim in the first half is no easy feat. We just let the head down after the red card. Some nice forwards there, just need more of them!

Well. Lose a 10 pt lead. Only one word for that. Starts with a b. Div 4 next year again. Might be harsh but no hard luck stories or excuses entertained. You just can't lose a 10 pt lead in a must win game.

Poor poor result today. Eight points up against Longford with ten minutes of second half remaining and can't manage the game to a conclusion - damning. A draw would've been sufficient but couldn't manage a draw either Until a Wicklow football team can get results in these type of matches, I can't see them achieving anything worth talking about. At least hurlers delivered.

What happened. Leading by 10 points on numerous occasions

Need to put things in perspective.

Counties with proper planning etc would go from 4 to 3 to 2. We would have came straight back down.

I've always thought that the hurlers despite having less clubs and resources to draw from always fave better value than the footballers. Nothing this weekend has made me change my mind.

Anyway, we have a final to look forward to next week.

Very very tough result to take today in Longford. Under McConville this team plays some lovely attacking football at times, pure joy to watch when things click up front.

There has been an over reliance on Jackson, this has been stated in many quarters. However the real fault line is the coughing up of (what should be comfortable) leads. There is a train of thought that the new rules allow for this, but I dont buy it. I wont go into the many key times under McConville we have got into brilliant positions on the scoreboard, only to finish the game empty handed.

With a lead like we had today against Longford, to end up ultimately beaten, we dont deserve Promotion in my view. Fair play to Longford, they have always been proud Gaels. They didnt lie down and took the head by the hair in front of their own support. The best of luck to them and Carlow next year in Division 3.

The Tailteann Cup awaits for us and I dont know what to think. This team flatters to decieve (we were favourites to be promoted) and I wouldnt hang my hat on them.

Well, that's the third game that the lads have let slip when the chips are down. Twice against Limerick last year. First in the league with promotion the prize and then the TC in Croker. Both games in the bag then - zilch. And now today, 10 pts up and lose. That just can't happen in a "must win" game. So, no excuses or hard luck stories. We could fill several books with them. Again it was that old warrior to the fore when the chips were down. Maybe it's just as well. We are not good enough to get out of Div 4 - yet.

Why do the footballers need an outside manager and the hurlers don't ??

And why do the footballers probably get vastly more funding than the hurlers ?

I could be wrong but I'd imagine it is due to larger playing numbers for football than hurling. People might correct me if I'm wrong but there are 29/39 clubs in Wicklow, all of those clubs play football? How many hurling clubs are there in Wicklow - less than 10? If there was a question posed at a county board meeting about switching funds from football to hurling, how would clubs vote? I think Wicklow hurlers have done brilliant under Bosco and I hope they win their league final and are competitive in Division 2. On the other hand, I think Wicklow footballers have massively underachieved over the last 40+ years I've been following them. Somebody asked why the footballers have an external manager which is a fair question. It would be much better if a Wicklow man was managing the Wicklow footballers but if I look through the list of club managers in Wicklow, there are very few, if any Wicklow born managers. Who are potential managers of the footballers? In the last 30 years, only Harry Murphy and Hugh Kenny from Wicklow have managed Wicklow footballers compared to 6-7 external managers during the same period. One final comment, I don't think the footballers underachievement over the years is due to who managed them, it is a lack of a winning mentality. When Wicklow players get themselves into winning positions in important games, they stop playing, they freeze when the winning line is within sight. For me, it has to be a mentality thing.

Fair points, well made.

Outside managers is not the problem. Got promoted under Oisin.
Also enjoyed a level of success under Micko
