We will bring a performance for those fixtures but we're so prone to getting caught out when we're expected to win." I made that point before. Wexford are always capable of beating the top teams. Also well in v Clare until sending off in championship two years ago. Still think Croke Park is key fixture for both. Obviously any point dropped v others is curtains. Mixed fortunes for our teams this weekend. Good win for our Hurlers yesterday in Parnell Park. Dublin 2-19 v Kildare 0-10 FT It was 2-08 to 0-05 at HT. We had 8 different scorers with Donal Burke top scoring with 11pts, and Ronan Hayes top scoring from play with 2goals. Interesting stat that we only had 6 starters from our meeting with the Lillies last June. We now have 3 weeks off until the next game against Wexford at Croke Park - a fixture that will most likely have a major bearing on promotion to Division 1A. Our footballers were well beaten by Mayo earlier today although the sending off had a major influence on the result. It finished 1-18 to 2-09 but was 0-10 to 1-05 at HT. Sean McMahon seeing red needlessly 4minutes into the 2nd half meant there was no way back for the Dubs. We had 6 men on the scoresheet with Paddy Small top scoring from play for us with 1-01. Con was named to start but he never togged out and we also lost both Dunne and Howard to injuries the first half. Hopefully none are serious, especially after the news about Theo and Lee. We clearly have a lot of work to do. But as I suspected, Ger's priority is unearthing new players for the the Leinster Championship. His post match interview was very interesting - he will cut the current squad in the next week but also that a couple of long serving players might also be gone from the panel.... Watch this space as they say. For me, if he wants to stay in Div One we need to beat both Rossies and Monaghan. I will be shocked if we beat any of the other Div 1 teams in the League this year. Anyway, no game for 2 weeks so some very interesting conversations to be had by Ger in the background.... Clearly a new era for the Dublin Footballers, the level of which only time will tell.... While the margin was big, Kildare are coming on. Obviously bulked up and more aggressive which is default for this level. Others don't have that. Beaten Antrim, came within a few points of Kilkenny in Walsh shield and could survive with two wins. Championship probably be tougher for them so staying in 1B more important imho. Good to see that Sean McMahon's ludicrous red card v Mayo has been overturned and he is free to play v Monaghan at the weekend. It should never have been a red card in the first place. Massive game for the Dubs - a must win tbh, if Ger wants to avoid relegation to Div 2. With Ger experimenting with new players, it is difficult to see us getting many wins in this league campaign. Ger and the lads should pick up two points the weekend and hopefully kickstart the season.Monaghan are struggling badly and I seen in the bookies Dubs are 1/8 on to win. Im hoping for at least six points in league and Monaghan should be a cert. They are the 2 games I would have targeted also but things never go that simply... Yep, I am hearing one name in particular who could be cut.
