FAI level shambles, if true.

I was at the Netwatch Cullen Aquatic Centre yesterday. The lads played very well. And given the experimental/transitional nature of the team, the result was very good. Yesterday should allay a lot of fears that Carlow will slide down the levels once some of our marquee players retire. No Chris Nolan or James Doyle or Ciaran Whelan etc and we still comfortably beat a decent team. Donagh Murphy is going to be a great hurler. He's a huge talent. Fiach O'Toole also did very well. Ironically, Marty was pretty quiet by his standards. Horrible conditions to play in. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 1023 - 25/01/2026 13:07:20 2653053 Link 0 |

Great win by the footballers today. I listened to it on the radio I know they had technical issues at the start which they say weren't their problem but fair play to KCLR for sending a commentator and two co - commentators up that far today. It was getting nervous near the end when seven point was whittled down to four but it sounds like they defended very well. Choo choo didn't start and didn't come on, anyone know why? I was there too and very happy with that performance especially second half when we stepped up a level from what Down were capable of. It'll be a hard ask to stay in division 1 but there reason to be very hopeful that they can. Donagh had a super game, coming after scoring 1-5 from play against UL during the week which takes some doing as that UL team is the greatest colleges team ever assembled and would win the Liam McCarthy cup if they were in it. Wexford in a fortnight is one of those early season games that we are capable of getting a result in. They were lucky last night by all accounts. Hopefully a big crowd will travel down and not stay at home I hear it's on live on TG4. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1754 - 25/01/2026 16:03:51 2653093 Link 0 |

Bare minimum margin win. Lines up next weeks game as vital for both sides if they want to finish in top 2. But then, this division is going to be as tricky as ever to negotiate. Tipp drew with London. Either of those teams can spring surprises. Anyway, may the best team win next week. Home advantage could be huge for Carlow.

UL are 1 of the best colleges teams ever for sure, but wouldn't come close to winning a Liam McCarthy. Murphy is a great talent! Was very good at Freshers and has kicked on. You would have every chance in the Park I feel, we will still be missing a good few of our best players Id be guessing. It is on tg4. Yes for a change we were lucky, though Davy and his mentors wound the players up, were running around on the pitch, and probably caused the free to be moved up. Great that he still wants us to win! He's a superb player. I was at the UL game also, and he was a standout player, which is brilliant for the county as he's only 21.They are playing during the week in a quarter-final against Mary I, and best of luck to him. I also think Kyle is playing during the week for Waterford (not 100 percent sure if it's Carlow's Kyle Foley anyone able to confirm?). Either way, best of luck. Brilliant for the county to see footballers getting off to a start, with many players standing out. It's not easy to go up there and get a result a brilliant weekend. Roll on next weekend… Ceatharlach7000 (Carlow) - Posts: 24 - 25/01/2026 18:15:57 2653137 Link 0 |

Couldn't have wished for a better start to the league today, I would have said this was the toughest fixture of the campaign. Well done to all concerned. If we can win again next week against Wicklow (no easy task), we would surely be favourites for promotion. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 1023 - 25/01/2026 18:46:51 2653144 Link 0 |

Decent start from the hurlers, you just need to grind out wins on days like yesterday. It was great to see Donagh Murphy and Jack Treacy (in 1st half in particular) play well. Felt sorry for young Fitzpatrick but given he was on a yellow it was the right call to make a change at half time. Also John Mike showed there's life still left in him and an outlet at full forward with 1-2. Antrim and Kildare will be the obvious targets but no reason we can't give Wexford a ratllw especially if Chris is back. ACarlowGael (Carlow) - Posts: 30 - 25/01/2026 19:21:58 2653150 Link 0 |

In fairness Murphy has been a standout young player for MLR in both codes for years. Remember the minor football final they lost against EO during the COVID years and he was the best on the pitch by a mile. Great to see him progress through the age groups, schools/colleges and now county.
