Well said. I love you people of Leitrim and nothing would give me more pleasure than to see you climb the heights in the next few years. In the meantime for those haters on here towards the Rosie's, less of the vitriol. We are doing our best. That's what we strive for. Love you all. Hugs and cuddles.

I just hope that Stevie can lift the lads after last weekend please and thanks. This is a massive game for the future of GAA thanks in Leitrim and I would urge many mens and womens to travel in large numbers to this incredible occasion. Thank you in advance for doing this please. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 378 - 08/01/2026 10:06:49 2650237 Link 0 |

He is listed as Leitrim Gaels elsewhere. Just a misprint I would say

I'd have to beg to differ on this one as he featured in midfield last night in the sigerson for Sligo & played the full game. Also he finished all of Allen Gaels games last year bare one so I think there's more to it than injury worry's. Possibly Allen Gaels telling there players not to play as 2 others walked off the panel also. Same as Leitrim Gaels rumour has it there players were told not to go near it either any young lads that are left there are mostly on scholarships so they have to be there . We are in a dark place with Leitrim football

Why would clubs not want players to play for their county?

As pessimistic as it may sound there is absolutely nothing in it for them. Talking to a lot of players that have been around the scene, the player welfare isn't up to scratch. Younger lads there that may be up in Dublin in college, they are missing the prime years of their lives by having to travel up and down the country once or twice a week, not drinking and having to mind what they eat, where is the fun in that to only get hammered by a "weak" roscommon side. Club football at the moment is just as professional as our county standard with a lot more leeway. Probably a very unpopular opinion but I can see why a lot of players are walking away and just sticking with club, open to criticism on this.

Very disappointing if that's the case. Good to see Conor Reynolds and Ryan back for the weekend. Sligo will probably be out of the sigerson next week be a big ask beating nuig. Hopefully Radek commits, other than the jones brothers who else from Leitrim Gaels is there J Flynn?,A Flynn (retired ) Casey (injured) and bruen(abroad) outside of those four, is there any one else who starts ?

In fairness there is probably just three or four counties in the country where they have a chance of winning the sam maguire, there is nothing in it for the rest of the counties. Even the successful counties have lads needing to travel long distances and at the end of their 20s they have also missed out on the prime years

Stevie and the lads need time please. Thanks. I hate this hounding of managers on these forums. It is very draining and tiresome. I for one will be there on Sunday with my Leitrim hat on me thank you so much everyone.

Agree on that much, Poacher does his best with what's in front of him, plus your guaranteed 3 games in this competition barring pitch being unplayable so no point worrying too much about the results, we can't be expecting to be beating div 1 development squads when we don't have everyone available either. I expect us to run Galway a bit closer and get a win in plate final if there is any chance of promotion

I don't think anyone was running down the coach in the last few posts. I've heard Steven Poacher is a really good manager and a good man manager at that ! I think it's more to the point it's disappointing that players won't commit to it. When was the last time you seen the senior county championship winners have barely any feature in the team that's the disappointing part. A lot of these lads speak about playing for your club and winning with your club the passion behind it but when you see your county struggling where does that passion go? Should be an honour to put on a Leitrim jersey not an inconvenience.

This is the sort of weak mentality that has us where we are and it permeates down through all aspects of life in Leitrim. Little auld Leitrim, ah shur aren't we great for turning up. I love my county but my god we can be too passive as a community. You'd never hear this talk over in the counties that surround us. Fermanagh which has a similar playing population as ourselves get on with it and you can be guaranteed they have lots of lads also doing miles up & down to Belfast & Dublin. Anything worth doing does not come without sacrifice, and keeping the GAA alive is something worth doing, in the hope that someday better days are ahead & the hard work pays off. Otherwise what's the point? I'm not sure where this lack of players welfare is coming from, lads have never been better looked after.

Well said. However in fairness I underststand the majority are putting in a good shift and perhaps we could get a few surprises from them in the League.

I think that's a reflection of the rest of the team when you take out the 3 Jones brothers in all fairness. Look it it was my club it wouldn't bother me one bit, the Dick Ellis Cup is going to spend the next few months sitting on someone's mantle piece and that's what I'd be happy with as a first time winner. But of course it's not good for the wider picture. I think we're past the days of strong teams like the Willies & B'more where both clubs would have had 5 - 6 each on a panel. Mohill and perhaps Glencar Manor are the only recent examples but back in the 80's & 90's it was a regular occurance year after year.
