Ah I get ya, so the championship will decide promotion and relegation from the league and championship, and the league will decide seedings for the championship. That's not bad at all.

Yup, that's it in a nutshell. Still don't know what to do with the Spring League though!

They should get a huge cannon, and get the Spring League, and roll it up into a big ball, and stuff it into the cannon, and launch it as faaaar away as it will go so that we never hear tell of it again.

I noticed Leitrim were beaten in the Connacht PPS A Championship. Backheel (Leitrim) - Posts: 224 - 12/12/2025 20:47:15 2648166 Link 0 |

Here's a couple of reasons. It took almost 12 weeks to play six group games at u17 level this summer. Then there was a mad scramble to finish the championship before the Connacht club started. So, even though we are told we've too few clubs and thats why we're struggling, the few that we do have couldn't even be organised efficiently. There are plenty more reasons but an awful lot of our problems stem from how things are run. A lot of our problems are self inflicted and we hide behind excuses. Start using the resources that we do have in an efficient and professional manner and see where that takes us. That hasn't happened in a long time. That's why our standards have slipped. The size and pick of the opposition as increased considerably in Connacht in the intervening time whereas we're maybe only slightly up. Schools like Summerhill and Claregalway college in A with maybe 300 odd footballing boys to pick from, vs Carrick CS with maybe 100, 150 odd. Manor could indeed have moved up but there is no hard and fast rule on it and it's generally left to schools to grade in their own best interest. No sense in moving up to B if you haven't the numbers or ability coming on consistently to replace what you've lost from 6th year the year before. Agree the current format is rubbish and not took seriously but I think it's cos like leagues and championships of old, there is little jeopardy with one team up and down so you can get a win or draw vs a depleted side and manage to stay up. Here's a mad idea, make it groups of 3 where you get 2 games then knockout games for promotion or relegation, less of just fulfilling fixtures and teams conceding because they would rather go out on the beer. Less games to play and less chance of games conceded. Could consider straight knockout but less teams might enter then. I think of it like the county preseason games, not worth much but better than challenges especially the time of year when pitches are heavy and often unplayable for some clubs gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 708 - 13/12/2025 16:39:05 2648231 Link 0 |

That would make sense in regards to the numbers. I do wonder if we lack the ambition or want to be better sometimes to play at a higher level. A load of guys leaving both times we got to division 3 at senior level being a prime example Backheel (Leitrim) - Posts: 224 - 13/12/2025 16:46:46 2648233 Link 0 |

Often pondered that myself, I think the ladies had same issues this year after their all Ireland win in 24. It meant the S&C work and progress made under Moran & Graham was mostly down the swanny, we are producing decent players it's keeping them committed and not having to build a nearly new team every 2/3 years that's the problem gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 708 - 13/12/2025 19:54:47 2648247 Link 0 |
