Is McStay correct? Kerry got away with hands on the arm. When mayo done same Coldrick was quick to blow. LimerickForLiam24 (Limerick) - Posts: 160 - 31/03/2025 13:12:19 2599695 Link 6 |
Mcstay was 100% correct . Kerry and clifford get frees way to easily . The treatment Aido gets and gets nothing from the ref where as Clifford gets everything. He's no angle either S1234 (Mayo) - Posts: 115 - 31/03/2025 14:37:18 2599717 Link 3 |
He's talking rubbish. If, by some mad twist of fate, we won yesterday this would never have been mentioned. Buying frees and influencing refs is part of the game. Cillian was very good at it. Maybe we should get Cillian into the backroom team for the championship to improve our street smarts and dark arts. We were well beat yesterday and Kevin's comments make us look like sore losers, a week away from the championship.

It doesn't matter who the ref is Mayo will always complain. Sure they are still going on about 1996 and 2014. If there were All Irelands given out for crying... But I don't think Kerry or Clifford get frees any handier than others. In fact I'd say Clifford usually has to work harder for them as there are usually 3 or 4 players hanging out or him. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1171 - 31/03/2025 15:01:57 2599730 Link 5 |
Yes, he is. No one gets free more easily than Kerry.

I don't think it matters what club or county you're from, all opposition teams get frees more handily.

Deflection….McStay be as well keep his trap shut and concentrate on our own many failings. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11512 - 31/03/2025 17:12:46 2599761 Link 1 |
Famous/Markee players always get frees easier than unknown players. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1288 - 31/03/2025 17:13:28 2599762 Link 1 |
McStays dislike for Kerry or Curry as he say, is nothing new. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1549 - 31/03/2025 18:10:45 2599784 Link 3 |
Hilarious. I recall one specific example of when we played your lot in a league final in Croker two years ago and anytime a Galway player in so much as looked at "Aido" he got a free. All this talk about Clifford from Mayo supporters today certainly has a tinge of irony attached. Your "danger man" has been well looked after in the past. ahsure. Now in the nicest way possible and correct me if I'm wrong on this but should it not be "Do Kerry Get Free's A Bit Too Easy?"? Without the apostrophe it becomes the present tense 3rd person singular of "free" as in to "free" someone? So to put that into a headline type sentence it could be something like "Sean O'Shea frees himself from the County Panel due to issues with the current manager!", to inform us of the current situation down yonder? Just as an example like!, as they say next door!? Onion_Sack (Dublin) - Posts: 289 - 31/03/2025 19:33:49 2599801 Link 1 |
He has won a club All-Ireland as a manager, which was a brilliant achievement with Brigid's. Also already has a league title with Mayo. Like you said, he got off the pundit's chair and took on the challenge. That's worth far more than cheap talk.

McStay always fawning over Kerry on TSG. Martin Carney was the same.

Mayo blaming the ref is nothing new, all they have to do is look in the mirror to see why they have lost so many big games in Croke Park. Some joke after all the diving they done themselves down the years. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3149 - 31/03/2025 22:28:19 2599844 Link 2 |
Thought Mayo got the balance of the decisions tbh. Eoghan McLaughlins goal consisted of about 12 steps taken. The. A mark was brought forward from the resulting kickout very harshly for a 2 pointer. And then Ryan O'Donoghue escaped a red for a cynical clothesline to Geaneys head PressureKick (UK) - Posts: 260 - 31/03/2025 23:55:39 2599852 Link 1 |
No, with the apostrophe it wouldn't make any sense. Frees in this case isn't the present tense 3rd person singular of free, but the plural of the noun free, in this case a free-kick.

The English grammar debate is far more interesting than Kerry and free kicks. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2702 - 01/04/2025 08:38:35 2599869 Link 0 |
I think you need to look up the meaning of "fawning".

I think Kevin Mc Stay has done all the other All-Ireland contenders a big favour with his comments where the difference between victory and defeat can. be a couple of points. Clifford is a class act but always seems to get the benefit of the doubt, don't think he will get as many "soft frees" from now on. tireoghainabu (Tyrone) - Posts: 387 - 01/04/2025 13:04:55 2599925 Link 1 |
You need to produce some evidence and, like McStay, not make wild statements. The game is on TG4 Player; have a look and come back with specific incidents where Kerry got frees they did not deserve and where Mayo did not get frees that they deserved. I do remember: Reape hitting Clifford and not being penalised, Aiden O Shea being penalised 3 times in about 5 minutes just after half time and not getting a card (one of which was nasty enough on Jason Foley) and Paul Geaney having to go off after a blow to the head. I'll have a look at the game and come back with some evidence. Aibrean (Kerry) - Posts: 324 - 01/04/2025 13:47:52 2599937 Link 1 |
