International Rules

Sounds like it was never going to happen? Did they announce it to see what the interest would be? It was announced to be on in 2 weeks time and it just fizzled out. Very strange carry on.

Mayo's Kobe McDonald is set for a move to the AFL. The deal is likely to be announced in the coming days and he is expected to join after he completes his Leaving Cert.

Glad the international rules was called off. I don't know why the GAA a help the AFL strip the sport of it's best players. I know you can't stop them but the GAA need to wake up to the fact they are a target for AFL expansion.

Thats a pity. Looks like a good up and coming footballer and Mayo need plenty like him. Not sure what he was thinking about career wise outside football or what prospects there are for young men like him in west of Ireland through education and work if he doesn't take his chance to go all the same!

There is a lot going on with AFL, but the reason for the reason for the uptake in new players is that Tasmania are entering in 2028 and will be able to take 2 players from every other club - so those clubs are taking extra Irish lads this year who will be ready to play in 2028.

Having county minor at U17, gives the aussies a good look at upcoming players a year earlier than before.

They also see the players playing senior club football.

There has only ever been 72 Irish Males in the afl and 1/6 of them currently involved. A new record.

It will keep increasing, especially if they set up a team in Darwin which is rumored for 2030.

This is a reasonable decision by his parents. They will have his best interests central to his future and will have considered all the options. There is more to life than joining an intercounty panel at 18. Best wishes to the young fella, I hope he is very successful there.

Good luck to him.
I have to laugh at the view the AFL are taking players because of the International games.

They haven't been played in 9 or 10 years and of course the lads being poached are all underage lads.

No one said they are taking players because of the international games. Eddie McGuire wanted to play the games again to smooth relationships as they target more players. It's all on YouTube on his channel. They are also starting their own international game in march between the Irish ladies so won't need the GAA.

Does the more access to view club games and minor u20 championships assist with AFL scouting

What a talent Kobe is. Top class.

Wishing him every success and hopefully he will return to grace Croke Park in the future...

It's great for the lad and I hope it works out for him, but it is disastrous for Mayo and those who enjoy gaelic football being played as it should be.

If you were to pick an AFL club that most resembles Mayo then it would be hard to look past St Kilda.

It shows how shallow the talent pool is in Australia when their clubs continually have to go to Ireland and other countries to find new players

International game between the women?

Why? Top level LGFA is excellent game. Womens AFL as viewers who tune in early to see club games on TG4 will know is dog's dinner.

The GAA are responsible for this. They should sever all ties with the AFL and stop that stupid compromised rules farce. I understand that its a great opportunity for the players themselves but do the Clubs and Counties get anything for developing the player?
