Replying To Tadhg2020:  "What i was going to say is that the Abbey lads hurl for Templeglantine which is just out the road. The football only area in West is shrinking. Its really only along the estuary from beyond Askeaton to the Kerry border. Athea have hurling these days too. Even the estuary boys who want to hurl play for Askeaton. Its still strong football country but hurling is on the rise.
Ironically West is where Camogie is strongest.
There is another small enclave of 3 football only clubs on the north east cork and West tipp border. John Kiely is from there as is jonny Murphy"
Yes I pass Johns and James houses fairly often every year.

Ballylanders, Galtee Gaels and Galbally is it?

Who would they hurl for around there? Glenroe?

Yes. Some for Glenroe and others for Garryspillane. Kiely played for Garryspillane.

Still Tadgh, the West Limerick representation on Limerick teams is very low. With Seamus Flanagan and Declan Hannon finished, there was no West Limerick Man on the Senior team so far this year or on the Minor last Saturday, apart from Adare Lads, who started, there was just two subs Danny O'Grady and Paul Collins, who came on

Only Paul was from the Western end of the Division

I used to drink in the pub in Anglesboro until it closed, and it was covered in Kilmallock photos and regalia.

I was in that pub I think. The Galtee View or the Galtee Bar?
I lived around there for 5 years after college working in Dairygold in Mitchelstown.
Was renting a place between Kilbehenny and Ballygiblin. Actually don't know if it was in Cork, Limerick or Tipperary!!!!

Replying To LimerickandProud:  "How are we all feeling about the Matches the weekend?

I don't think I have ever seen all four camps so quiet. It's like none of them want to give any updates to the media regarding injuries or availability of players which I take as a good sign for all

I know Limerick were training in the Gaelic Grounds early Saturday morning when I was passing a number of the players going in just before 10 O'clock. From what I have heard Cathal O'Neill is doing well and may be winning his race to be fit for Sunday barring any set backs. I haven't heard anything else.

As regards Clare there are big question marks about David Reidy and Conor Cleary's availability due to concussion protocols. David McInerney hobbled off in the quarter final as well and all or some of these would be huge loss to Clare.

Cork have big concerns about Timmy O'Mahoney and Tommy O'Connell with Timmy expected to be fit but Tommy more of an uncertainty."
Camps are quiet but I expect that to ramp up in the coming days.

I really can't see any scenario where Clare beat Limerick. Everything would have to fall right for them on the day, and Limerick would have to malfunction. Limerick have really surprised me thus far, I questioned if they'd have the appetite to go full throttle again this year and reverse the recent trend - Well, they've answered that one emphatically and are now clear favorites to win it out.

I believe the news is positive on both Tommy and Timmy, and it will be great to have them back. Expecting a massive test from Galway and I'm really looking forward to it. For this Cork team winning the AI is all that matters, and anything less will be seen as a failure. That will bring is own added pressure, and they have to manage that well.

I expect Cork to win on Saturday, but it won't be as easy as the odds suggest. 1/3 is a ridiculous price.

Thats mad, small world! It was the Galtee View Bar! Big lounge out the back. We had motorbike shows there in the noughties and teens. Ive been to a few functions in the social club/church hall beside the church since. I only realised it wasnt in Cork when I saw all the Kilmallock stuff up on the walls!

Bookies odds follow the money. A lot of people will have backed cork to win the all Ireland.

He is but old oldtourman is also correct. I think the o farrell lad is askeaton too. The west doesnt produce county players as much as the rest for some reason. They do in Camogie but not in hurling. Maybe the tradition and culture of coaching just isnt in the clubs to the same level. I dont know.

A friend currently involved with A West Limerick Club make exactly that point to me.

Yes. His brother Donie also played with Limerick as did James 'Jim Bob' Ryan and the Carroll Brothers, Mossie, Brian and Frankie.

Donie and TJ pretty much run Garryspillanes underage now.
You forgot Ray Sampson and Hugh Flanagan.
