I am in favour of anything we can do to make the life of the Palestinian people better. We all recognize the injustice perpetuated on them for over 80 years. However making empty gestures towards multi nationals will have no effect whatsoever on their plight, and while it may us feel better about ourselves and our committment to justice, it will do nothing whatever for the people in Gaza and The West bank. Agree with that in general. What Israel has done in Gaza is appalling but this smacks of grandstanding.

Yes no place for it gaa agree it's awful in gaza. But we need to keep politics out of the gaa . Besides what difference do they think ut will make ? People will still get Allianz insurance and it wont stop Israel. Same way as students blocking the entry to book of kells in Trinity didn't stop it .

So we should only consider actions that will have a measurable positive effect by your reasoning. However all of these gestures of support can incrementally turn the tide, anyone that is suffering welcomes gestures of support. That is why they are welcomed by the spokespersons of the oppressed. By this silly logic maybe we should keep quiet when people are bereaved etc sure offering condolences is not going to change their situation. If the players are against the continued sponsorship deal with Allianz they are correct to demonstrate. Politics is what goes on in Dáil Éireann. Genocide and war crimes have nothing to do with politics.

This narrative is wearing thin "no point in doing anything because it will make no difference". For sure if everyone stands idly by and keep their mouths shut there will be no change.

Another "say nothing, do nothing, it will make no difference" post. Surely if players feel that allianz's business involvement in Israel is wrong they are fully entitled to refuse to stand beside (and therefore promote) their banner.

100% agree with the boycott. Those who think politics has no place in sport will have to ignore a tsunami of historical examples to this day in order to convince themselves of that position. Life is deeply political and sport is a big part of our lives and a big vehicle for social change. As with the Dunnes Stores women cited by someone above, these small gestures do matter. Each of us has to make a choice about where we want our funds to go and proximity to a genocide that we want those companies to have!
