U20 team named, could look very wrong in a few hours time but looks like a decent enough team named, good bit of experience there compared to last year, think Seán O'Brien is the only Minor from last year named to start?

This is supposed to be a very, very good Galway team so there's a good chance we're really up against it today

Thought some people went overboard last year about the U20s, the goal is to produce at least two Senior starters from each age group and last year we had Simon Roche, Seán Rowley, and Cillian Byrne, didn't have much behind them so we were a bit too-heavy, don't know if our lads up to the age have the same star power but think there's more depth to this side

Good bit of size to this team, Ciarán Doyle is very athletic from what I've seen, Roark is a big guy, Colin Carley is big, Jack Nolan also has a bit of size to him, think Doyle from Davidstown also has a bit of size to him, Darragh Ryan on the bench is tall enough from what I remember from last year's Minors

Maybe a bit surprised that Charlie Mooney doesn't start given he started for a good Rathnure side last year, he's nearly the biggest guy we have, Kian O'Connor from Oulart is tall enough too but he's only on the extended panel, came on for Oulart a few times last year

So in the U20 leinster championship we have

Group 1
Wexford
Galway
Kilkenny
Kildare

Group2
Dublin
Laois
Offaly
Meath

Totally unfair!

Will be an interested watcher on clubber as can't make it to Portlaoise.
Just one observation on the team and yes in one way you can argue there is no corellation but how can there be no one from Oulart on the team ( I am not from Oulart)
This particular age group has been dominated by them from U12 through to minor where they lost only 1 match in the Premier grade over 5/6 years and that was the Minor Premier Final in 24 to Glynn Barntown after a replay. Then they avenged that loss last year against the same opposition. They also got to last year U21 Premier Hurling Final. It's definitely a stand surprise to me anyway.

Our minors beat Kilkenny and Cork 2 years ago.

If we get to a SF and draw Dublin in it we might win it. Big ask to beat this years Kilkenny and Galway teams but you never know on the day.

Redmond
Byrne
Roche
Foley

Not sure whether Dooley or jacko will be back

I do know Dempsey and Darren Codd are injured."
Shane is definitely not a fullback. And isnt as effective playing on big men. Dooley should be back. Id swap Roche and Redmond also. If Jippo is injury free Id play him in Newbridge. He will need games to build up match fitness and sharpness.

I only picked him there because I assumed the other two wouldn't be ready. Personally I'd actually prefer Murphy, I just don't see Rossi picking him to start.

I think we would need to come 2nd in the group for that to realistically happen

3rd in the group will probably be away to 2nd in the other group and the winner of that game will probably be away in the SF to whoever comes 1st in our group

I think the format is fine but do agree that the groups are very lopsided

I think they wanted to split (a) the two teams who made the Final last year (KK & Dublin), (b) the two semi-finalists last year (Galway & Laois), and then (c) the two quarter-finalists last year (Us and Offaly); if that's the case, it's just really bad luck

Might make more sense to seed based on Minor from three years ago than U20 from last year IMO

6 points playing with a gale, Good lord, I am afraid to even look at the 2nd half.

U20s up against it in the second half, that's a very strong wind and we're already four points down

Thought it was an even enough first half in general play tbh, how much of that was down to the big wind advantage we had, I don't know

Physical battles have been even enough, Roark has done a good enough job on Rabbitte

Think we hit nine wides to their one and then we had two goal chances go astray whereas they nailed theirs, that's the big difference between the two sides, their running game has been seriously impressive, suppose it's to be suspected given that this is one of their best U20 sides in a good while as far as I know, Rabbitte and Niland could be starting for their Seniors come summer

Funny game because I didn't think it was that one-sided in general play but I suppose we hit 14 wides and only scored 1-08 so we left a lot of scores behind, Niland hit a few wides from frees early on in the second half but don't think they hit too many other than that

Niland nearly beat us by himself, thought their full-forward-line had our full-back-line on skates for the whole game, they created four goal chances and took them all

Don't think it was as bad as some will make it out to be, this Galway team are supposed to be very good and the game was even enough in general play, big difference was that we could hardly have been more wasteful and they could hardly have been more efficient

2 results- one a group game. Look at results overall, numerous trimmings and nowhere near success. Another mauling today at u-20, basically keeping consistent.

When that minor team come of age in a few years we'll win the All Ireland handy!!!!

Well beaten in the end. 1.08 is a very poor return for 60 + minutes. The lads tried hard but were quite simply outclassed by a very good Galway team. The strong wind should have had us leading at half time but terrible wides from distance was our downfall.
Galway were much more economical and fully deserved to win.
Big ask next week as we take on the cats. Let's hope that we can produce a better performance then and get back on track.

Shocker of a scoreline in fairness. Continues a worrying trend at this level.

Why did we train only once a week viking are kk and Dublin doing the same?Surely we should be training at least twice a week and try to develop our game for u20 the year after.

Yeah, take out Niland and it was a 50/50 game, really wasn't as one-sided as the scoreline makes it out to be, they still deserved to win by a good bit though and they had a few missing plus Rabbitte went off at HT

Going back three years ago, they pretty much annihilated everyone in Leinster, was a fairly big shock when they lost to Clare in the AI Final
