Replying To Timbertony: "Deserves credit for sticking around rather than throwing his hat at it like many others. Ridiculous situation last year v Dublin with Hetherton roasting Foley in the air and Donohue left struggling out the pitch."
IIRC, Hetherton didn't even roast Foley in the air (Well, he didn't for either of his goals anyway)
The first goal we handed to them, the second goal came off a break and we then had too many lads either ball-watching or swarming to the ball and left Hetherton free, third goal might have been a clean catch by Dublin but it wasn't by Hetherton, they just had a 4v3 or something and worked the ball to the spare man (Hetherton in this case)
I can understand why lads won't commit. Really there are several reasons 1 - Travelling distances too great, three times a week for university /college students. 2 - picking up injuries regularly. 3 - Leaving wife/ partner and young children for training and games. Can cause problems. 4 - non existant social life. A county player must give everything to the cause. 5 - work commitments. Having to ask employer for time off. Not all bosses are willing to release their employees on a regular basis. 6 - lack of opportunities to do overtime. Meaning lower income. 7 - unwilling to make the effort needed for intercounty. Can't be bothered. 8 - Not able to take the critism that may come from the media and supporters. Creats stress. 9 - Too many miles on the clock. After years of non stop training with club and county they reach a point when the body simply can't take anymore. So the reasons are many and understandable. It's easy for us supporters to give out about players not commiting but the bottom line is that each individual has the right to make a decision as to whether he commits or not.
Replying To StoreysTash: "Its concerning but so too is the attitude of Wexford supporters. Every time a match is played in Thurles people complain and a tiny few Wexford people go to the effort of going. Excuses, excuses, excuses. They will complain about Saturday week at 5pm in Croke Park. "Too early, too late, wrong place, too much else on, and so on". Yet they expect a young player to give up his social life and drive to Wexford from college or work 3-4 times a week from October when they themselves won't even drive to Dublin to a match one evening? And then if Wexford get to a Leinster Final every tom dick and harry in the county will go "we are great supporters" and Liam Griffin will be on the radio talking about pikes and fighting tradition. This young team needs big support now more than ever, Saturday week is a big big game for this team. If Wexford people want players to commit they need to show them "we are 100% behind you". A big cheer for a goal would be a huge boost for this team because Dublin will have a big support and Wexford need to match it and be there for the team. A hurler in Munster is treated like a rock star, in Wexford they are treated like an after thought. This is part of the reason why players won't commit. Saturday week is likely going to be the difference between promotion to 1A and 3 of the top teams in the country coming to Wexford Park next year or an away trip to Antrim and a home game v Down. Make up your mind which you want and think what you can do to help."
Excellent post . Next Saturday is a huge game it will more than likely decide if we are in 1A next year or not. Lets get out and support the lads . How good would it be to have the likes of Tipp, Limerick and Cork coming back to play in Wexford Park both for young lads watching on and our young teams development
Replying To Viking66: "Ian Carty started Championship in 2023, his only year on the panel. Was nominated for an u21 hurling all star in 2018 when he was at that grade too ."
Not sure how but I completely forgot about Carty.
When you see the names all written down, it's hard to resist the temptation of what-ifs. We have enough talent in the county to have genuine competition in the panel and be relatively strong.
Anyway I'm looking forward to the Dublin game now. It'll be a real litmus test. To be honest I absolutely loathe losing to them and we owe them so hopefully the lads can spring a surprise.

From watching Conor Foley so far this year, and his technique, Id say he will do better on Hetherton should he mark him again. Good players learn from their mistakes/experiences.
