Could be, think he played full-back for Kerry too and that's been a problem area for us in the last while Don't think he's played for Kerry since 2021 for whatever reason ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 778 - 12/01/2026 11:54:55 2650772 Link 0 |

Agree 100%, but he needs to be fresh for the championship this year. Most years recently he's played every League game and looks a little jaded come championship. Not sure how Keith wants to go about that, but does he really have to play all the League games? Hes 30 years old. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17992 - 12/01/2026 12:05:04 2650774 Link 0 |

Not sure. He has the League to make that case, if he's showing well in training.

I would say when the likes of Jacko and Chinner come back Kevin may be rested as part of rotation through the league. We will need our best 15 available against the Dubs and Clare however. Any idea who we are likely to have back in the squad and fit enough to play when the league kicks off again on Saturday week?

Reading that article he was corner back on the Joe McDonagh team of the year in 2020 so I think that shows if he has potential to be a good player for us and I think he's still only 27

That would mean more than being Kerry captain, as far as I know Kerry still operate the old system like Kilkenny, where the county champions nominate the county captain.

Talking to a friend who was at the practice match in carlow. Granted a practice match. He was to send me on what he think was the team. Conor foley at 6. Oisin pepper,wickam,French.corey. he said kk gave half a game to richie reid, deegan, donnelly and shane murphy who would be deemed near starters. Two missed penalties would of put a better completion on the scoreboard. He said kk won by about 14 points but they had someone like John donnelly to come on and get a few points. Everyone in the county knows this is a rebuild especially if jippo and conor mac don't commit. The most optimistic wx supporter is dreading the day lee retires. The show will go on without him but its important as many players can be blooded this year. Div 2 will give keith the chance to blood players and it won't be the cut throat of div 1. Dublin and clare will give management a idea where the team is going. The friend was a bit dejected driving back to wexford after a bad enough beating but finishing in the top 3 something that hasn't happened for a few years has to be number one target. The players aren't there at the moment but underage hasn't exactly being that successful. Kk at least were getting bet in u20 and minor finals. Daveys team was backboned by leinster u21 winners Liam dunne had started to blood so I'd be calling on the county board to go back to the start and try win leinster at minor and u20

Wouldnt get too upset as KK seemed to be taking the game more seriously and had a few regulars spread around. To say we were poor is an understatement but dont know the training scedule the boys are on so wont comment futher on this game.

I wouldn't be stressing too much over practice matches to be honest. Like you say we are in a rebuild at the moment. I don't think we have the calibre of underage players that we had in 13-16 but there's a minor winning team of 19 and Rossi had two good under 20 teams that probably underachieved so there are players. Looking at the positives I think we have some decent defenders coming in to add to what's there. The recks, hearne, jacko, Byrne are very good players. What we're really lacking the last number of years are good ball winning forwards and a goalkeeper. If you think back to Liam Dunnes time, he achieved a lot but it was only when Davy got them to buy into a regimental style that we really become a top level team. My points is a style that suits the players we have could achieve an awful lot in a short space of time. Right now we just need to take the hits and get games into lads. It's the only way for them to get up to speed really. I'm fairly cautious coming in to this season and a little worried, but we just have to play the hand we're dealt and keep going. We have reached as many u20 Leinster finals over the last 4 years as Kilkenny have. We have reached more since 2017 than they have, 5 to their 4. Was much easier to win Leinster at u20 without Galway in it too, they only got let in in 2018, and Offaly were really poor back then also. We only didnt finish in the top 3 in the Round Robin twice, the same as Galway. Both ourselves and Galway didnt finish in the top 3 once each in the last 2 years. I was talking to a few lads who were at the game, from here and Kilkenny. We were poor enough. At the same time they started around 5 of their established championship team, Mikey Butler started also. We would have been missing most of ours, with lads not back yet and lads like Lawlor playing Fitzgibbon or Ryan Cup, although it was good to hear that Cian Byrne got a half under his belt. Did your friend say who started for us at fullback? Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17992 - 15/01/2026 09:42:53 2651122 Link 0 |

They had a good bit stronger of a team than we had. We had mostly lads under the age of 22-23, along with a few lads in their 1st year on the panel. They are preparing for a League campaign in 1a, which we arent in fairness. John Donnelly, Mikey Butler, Paddy Deegan, Stephen Donnelly, Richie Reid, Shane Murphy, Killian Doyle, Niall Shorthall, Niall Rowe all played for them. Barcoe is an excellent young player also. Staunton is in his 2nd year on their panel too. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17992 - 15/01/2026 12:00:11 2651138 Link 0 |

It's good our young lads will get plenty of exposure over the coming weeks . They will need guidance from the older lads in the bigger games though. Any idea when we are likely to see more of the older lads returning to the squad
