Replying To ExiledInWex:  "And a result that went unnoticed was Enniscorthy CBS junior team beating St. Kieran's in the league stage of their competition.
Yes they lost to Good Counsel but schools have to start beating these top schools."
That was the group stage of the Junior A Championship. Was a good result ok, hopefully they can do the same come knockout. Hopefully Counsel can beat the Kierans lads as well.

I think the "graveyard" mentality is something Wexford people need to shift. Thurles, Neller, where else?
Its a pitch with 2 sets of posts no matter where the pitch is. The bigger problem is that Wexford teams are not good enough to beat the teams they are playing in these venues. That is that part that can change."
Its not just a Wexford hurling thing. Home advantage counts in most sports.

Thurles is a big monkey we need get off our backs. I think we have one championship win there in the last 20 years the win over Cork back in 2016

For sure. Although we haven't won in Parnell Park in Championship in so long I don't even remember the day. Can't remember winning there in over 20 years anyway.

Even underage our record there isn't great. Our u20s won there this year, the 1st year I can remember us beating the Dubs at all the underage grades from u14 up to and including both minor and u20, and it was alot of the same lads who were the last wexford team to win there, as minors.

We've actually only ever won two senior championship matches in Thurles. That one, and another back in 2002, when we beat Dublin in a Leinster semi-final that was played there because Croke Park was unavailable at the time.

However, that 2002 match was the first time we'd ever played in the championship there. We still had a bad record in other things there, though. Two that spring to mind immediately are being well beaten by Limerick in the 1984 League Final, and losing the 2001 Under-21 Hurling Final, also to Limerick.

Thurles is nearly a bigger issue for Wexford fans than it is for Wexford players and that's saying something

We typically have never had good support whenever we have played there

Don't we beat limerick in the 93 league semifinal. Other than that I don't remember too many good times there. I was living abroad in 2016 when cork bet us.

What has thurles to do with Wexford club hurling .
At present and unfortunately Wexford struggle at most venues as we are in serious transition.
We have one club at a serious standard as in St Martins. Will end up the ballygunnar of waterford.

That's true too, and that's nearly all the trips home. Unfortunately we won't be going there in the League this year, that was the last long post mortem! Our other trips away to Munster were way better, had a great time in Clare, and made a weekend of the Limerick trip, stayed there the night, went up to Longford on the Sunday morning from Limerick to see the Footballers. Tbh thought on the way back from Longford we would be in with a shout for silverware this year, but the trip to Parnell Park put paid to that.

Woohoo. Lets endenture young lads to go back training earlier for the most insignficant tournaments of all-time. Way to go GAA

They were trainings anyways. This just means we'll get to see them play

Its probably better than the challenge games they played at the start of this year though Beano? And being realistic will they really be back training earlier? Most if not all the lads playing at that level never stop training really.

Or on the other hand -

Since all county squads didn't leave it any later to start training last year anyway, and since all played practice matches in early January anyway, let's at least organise a few "proper" matches for them. Especially since gate receipts for those matches go to the Injured Players Benefit Fund. Better than games going ahead anyway either behind closed doors or else with people walking in for free, instead of contributing to that fund.

Yeah, that semi-final victory in '93 was one of our rare victories there. Tends to be forgotten about when you mention the '93 League because all anybody thinks about is the three finals v Cork.

Hard to think of many other good days there. One of the worst was when U21s lost to Antrim in the All-Ireland semi-final in 2013.

We did beat Galway there in the semi-final the following year, before losing to Clare in the final. And in 2015, we got revenge over Antrim, but were heavily beaten in the final by Limerick (all also in Thurles).

We're still only barely filling with one hand with the number of significant victories there we can think of over the past 40 years!

I think the Walsh cup is a useful tournament for giving lads a chance. Sure they're training anyway and players will tell you themselves they train to play meaningful matches. It's also something for the fans to look forward to post Christmas.

Granted its not an all ireland or anything but in its own context a decent tournament
