Replying To Viking66:  "Nice 1! You subtly moved the goalposts to suit your narrative better. This is your OP-
"With respect, calling Meath traditional heavyweights is like me calling Cavan modern heavyweights. The GAA existed for 70 years before Meath got into gear really."
As I pointed out in my earlier post by the GAAs 70th birthday Meath had reached 15 Leinster finals, winning 8, and 6 AI finals, winning 2. Only Kerry, Dublin, Cavan and Wexford had won 5 or more by then, Kildare and Tipp had 4, while Cork, Mayo and Galway only had 1 more each than Meath.
In the last 70 years Cavan haven't reached an AI Final, never mind won one.
I've no skin in this debate, but I take it you don't like Meath?!"
I really haven't moved the goalposts? The 70 years is an approx thing, I wasn't expecting people to get so hung up on this. Meath's AI success, and progression into overall heavyweights, begins at the very tail end of this period hence why I said they were getting into gear. Again, their record is better than most but not that of heavyweights of this era. Most counties are heavyweights if no bar is set for that standard.

I've not made any claims about Cavan and no I don't dislike Meath. You have as much skin in this debate as I do.

If my vague timeline is a problem for some of you, then by all means pick your own specific dates for this general debate about era's and we can discuss further on your own terms. It won't make a huge difference to the statistics, if that's what is bothering some

Meath have had more consistent overall success than Cavan or Wexford.

I don't dislike Meath either, in my time on the planet they are certainly one of the more successful counties. I still hope Louth beat them though :-D

So now it's a vague timeline? You originally said the first 70 years of the GAA. Not approximately the 70 years or something like that you said 70 years.

You still haven't told us who the heavyweights are?

Again like always the only person here who's getting bothered here is you and like always you try to claim it's everyone else. Do you gaslight people like this in real life?

Replying To Breffni40:  "Cavan's dominance predated the troubles but any way you can find to undermine it is irrelevant as it's objective reality that Cavan were heavyweights for a certain period of time.

In the period I've been referencing, 1884 - 1950, Cavan won more All-Irelands than Galway, Mayo and Meath, but we must have only beaten some of the defunct counties that no longer exist or something. We STILL have more AI's than Mayo.

Heavyweights Meath have 1 All-Ireland in that period of time and propelled themselves into heavyweight status in the next era.

Dublin and Kerry are the locked-in traditional heavyweights and you can make an good argument for Galway, Mayo and Cavan. Meath are not in the conversation for traditional heavyweights, but right up there overall, while Cavan are the opposite, my analogy 100% holds up"
So now Mayo are a heavyweight during this time frame despite the fact they have a similar record to Meath?

Why are changing what you said?

Like I said no need to get upset about it. It's a pretty simple question to answer surely.

You keep going on about me throwing the toys out of the pram and getting upset in multiple posts when I've done no such thing. Now you're crying about gaslighting and somehow I'm the problem here? Touch grass. I've explained my points and you just keep coming back with paranoid personal nonsense. I don't know you and you don't know me. Stop pretending you know anything about me and stick to the points raised. They've all been explained if you've any interest in understanding them instead of your weird little vendettas

Again you're proving the point. It's not just on this topic it's every time someone doesn't agree with your OPINIONS. Said I'd better put that in capitals for you.

But you haven't actually explained anything about it. You've just changed your story. Once again your exact words were first 70 years yes or no? You then changed your mind and said it was an approximate time frame again yes or no? You also said Viking agreed with you did you not? When it turned out they didn't you like always got upset and tried to claim it was everyone else. Like always you'll now try and claim that you meant something else or everyone else doesn't understand what you're saying. Well it's quite hard to understand what you mean when you keep changing your story to better suit you. You've been called out on it by others in this topic but like always you'll blame everyone else.

Ah right so this isn't about this topic, it's a gripe you have from another discussion, possibly 10 years ago. Likely another occasion where you, not me, not everyone else, failed to comprehend the point.

You are very clearly incapable of sticking to the topic. I have explained my points and I stand by them.

You can post all you want about me, how you've decided I've thrown my toys out of the pram and how you perceive my interactions on here but it will never be relevant to the topic. I'm not upset or angry, no matter how often you try to imply it to distract from the very basic and harmless GAA discussion I'm trying to partake in

What are you even talking about? Something from 10 years ago? Where has anything like that been said?

It's funny despite people telling you otherwise you still claim it's me. Others have questioned your nonsense on this topic. Why aren't you also replying to them? You even claimed other posters believe what you're saying despite the fact they've told you otherwise.

Do you actually read the nonsense you post? You haven't answered why you changed your story? No matter how much you try and tell everyone the opposite that's exactly what you've done and it's a regular thing with you.

Why can't you answer simple questions?

But you are getting upset like always. A quick look at your posts on other topics and you're doing the exact same thing over and over again.

I did reply to the other posters. I haven't changed my story.

Again with all the off-topic upset personal nonsense. You argue posters not posts.

Can we agree to disagree or are you gonna keep hounding me for explanations I've already provided?

I've repeatedly tried to be civil and explain my point but there's literally nothing I can say here that won't bring the same reaction and accusations that oneoff keeps coming back with so this is my last post on the thread. I kindly request that oneoff doesn't take their demands and historical gripes to other threads I may or may not comment on in future. Cavan4Sam

You really are something else. You have changed your story like you always do when you people don't agree with you. You've been called out on it here.

One last time so you understand. You're exact words were the first 70 years of the GAA nothing else. When you're nonsense was called out you changed and said you meant something else. Are you seriously trying to claim you didn't do that? It's there for everyone to see

You're the one who's brought it off topic no one else.

Again it's you who's arguing with posters not me. The fact you have past history of it is relevant.

So anyway back to the actual topic.

Imo some results considered to be upsets aren't as such.

Clare in 92 in retrospect was it an upset? They had won the B All-Ireland the year before, regardless of what people think it was an achievement at the time, got to the league quarter finals that Spring as well. They had also been in a few Munster U21 finals in the years leading up to it. It might even be a bit of a discredit to them as they had quality at the time.

Leitrim in 94 is similar. Again had won a B All-Ireland and a Connacht U21 title. Had also been in Connacht minor, U21 and Junior finals in the years leading up to it. So again had quality and had Micky Quinn an All-star.

Tipp winning Munster in 2020 should also fall into this category yet people will point out the success they had at underage as a reason why it wasn't.

The fact that the gap had been so long makes it seem an upset but ignored the fact that all of them had quality players and they managed to capitalise on it.
