It's supposed to be the case that if players are on scholarships, the college is guaranteed of their availability for colleges matches.

I'd guess that those being pulled from colleges matches this week are those not on scholarships.

Do players get scholarships just on athletic ability????

Would not be for that at all, at all if true.

American system produces imbeciles.

It's not quite that simple. There's a minimum grade criteria to meet and maintain.

I was on the UCD one but didn't make the cut because of where I was with academics at the time

Some more interesting games this weekend

Cork V Limerick is the big one on Saturday night. Two reasonably strong teams picked and a bit of experimenting on both sides I feel. I'm predicting Cork to win by 4 points (based on home advantage and the fact that they look ready and up for it and I think Limerick are still a few weeks behind in terms of preparation)

Kilkenny V Galway you would have to fancy Kilkenny based on last weeks performances and they fact they are at home. I'd say Kilkenny by 8 points

Tipperary V Wexford is one game I think that Wexford could be targeting and Tipperary have often struggled against them. I'm hoping Wexford can step it up from last week but I do think the this years Tipp team look like they have a nice game plan and the fact that Wexford are still missing some front line players I would have to fancy Tipperary by a goal

****! I swore blind that I had posted it on Wednesday night, only to find it wasn't there the next day. I was thinking it must be a system error. Anyway, I posted a different set of selections again yesterday (I didn't have a copy of my original lot). It will be interesting to see which set of selections does best, hopefully the latter.

Based on what we saw last week you're more optimistic than I am

That's fine. A lot of American athletes get scholarships but most end up not making the grade and with no real education either.

Hard to predict results in the early rounds anyway. I'd usually get better as the competition goes on. Hopefully it will be the same this year!

I think Limerick might shade game. Cork minus the 2 Downeys and Dalton don't look particularly strong. Unfortunately Ben Cunningham is injured but I like that a few rising stars are included as substitutes, and might get a run out. Cork's full forward line will get a useful test.. and in front of 30K spectators should be a good game.

Great to see such a crowd coming. Us neutral non travellers can't see it unfortunately.

Proves that people want to see the big teams meeting, regardless of the cynical view of league. Biggest series attendance for god knows???

Good game by both. Great work by Cork to get back into it and grab that draw. Some good games to look forward to this year!

Good intensity for a League game in early February. And a good watch despite the conditions. Think the ref played for a draw, but it was a fair result overall.

Well, that was a surprise!

Really puts Carlow in with chance of promotion

I was not a bit surprised. Actually expected it. Carlow more experienced team and well deserved. No excuses. Winning becomes a habit and so does losing. Challenge matches or competition.

They are good. We had couple of close shaves there in championship.

Far more potential there than in other Leinster teams in lower rank.
