That is up to Cork to work out, not drag Offaly 3 hours to their white elephant.

This must the the 3rd time this has been posted. Cork didn't need anyone else to sell out the game. Offaly opted to play there. It is as simple as that.

So you are okay with all the tickets being sold in Waterford for the championship games in Walsh Park as we need no one else to sell out ?I don't think that is how it will work. Waterford were willing to play in Nolan Park and Offaly were not given a choice.

I have no idea what the argument about ticket in Waterford had to do with it. Cork could have sold it on their own, that doesn't mean they should have all the tickets. And by extension, the Waterford game wasn't necessary to sell it out…..and that should have been obvious before the fixture was set.

Also, I actually live in Kilkenny, I'd have gone to the game if it was on here. It actually made much more sense for it to be on here in Kilkenny. It was an Offaly official that said they were given the choice and the players wanted to play in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. I never said it made sense. People are using it as an argument to slam Cork for some reason.

Offaly chose to play in Cork? What were the other options?

From what I hear Offaly County Board were considering asking to play elsewhere to allow more supporters, but didn't pursue this when the players said they were fine to play in front of a packed house in Cork.
Of course as it turned out they played in front a near empty stadium. Hard to estimate but it seemed that no more than a thousand Offaly & Waterford supporters managed to get tickets. So the match was played in front of these along with a couple of thousand Cork and handful of Tipp supportes.

Was the first time I was at the new stadium and I was impressed and looking forward to the league next year if Cork are drawn at home to Offaly. I think the few complaints on this forum about the difficulty getting there and parking are overblown. There seemed to be loads of parking in and around the town and a nice walk along the river. Of course if you are coming from the northern half of the country, it is probably not the right choice but for Munster and Leinster it is easy enough to get to.

Thanks for the explanation. But surely the players and County Board would have known that they wouldn't be playing in front of a packed house. And didn't they consider the supporters (tickets availability and travel)?

Both games were in PUC at the weekend, and what a great occasion it was. Get over it..

Is it not just simply down to money, as with most things.

Do Waterford and Offaly get and equal share of the gate?
If the answer is yes, then it's the obvious answer and a no brainer as why they would want to play there.

Not great for the fans but I'm sure the players love playing there too.

As much as I hate to agree with Cork fans I think people fdo need to get over Pairc Ui cahoimh. It's a major GAA stadium in the second biggest city in the county and will rightly be getting plenty of big games from now on

No problem with League Final in PUC
Problem with having Waterford v Offaly there (thats it there even had to be a Div 2 final, personally I would have given the trophy to Waterford for topping the table)
Firstly, unfair on Offaly fans, but secondly and more importantly double headers are a disaster. Whether its a league Final or an AI QF.
Sounds good on paper (2 games for 1!, more games, see players from other teams)
Reality is it detracts from the atmosphere of both, with fans coming and going, fans not paying attention, all of which has to affect the players
I dont know of any other sport that plays double headers
Waterford v Offaly in Nowlan Park would have drawn a tidy crowd by itself and PUC would have sold out anyway
Or play it in Walshe Park as a reward for Waterford topping the table

Any player worth his salt wouldn't be affected by it. What would you be doing Yadse if you were on the field, looking out at who is coming and going in the stands? A fine article of help you'd be to your team!

I'll let you in on a small secret: players go onto the field of play to play the game, and not for the purpose of having a great viewpoint for watching the crowd in the stands.

People were cribbing about the old Páirc and rightly so. It was dilapidated and old. Don't talk about the seats in the old covered stand!
Now we have a modern stadium, pristine playing surface and people are still cribbing.
Takes about 30-40 mins to walk from city centre car parks or Kent Station to the Páirc.

I was away for work at the weekend up the country so watched the match in a GAA club house near where I was based. The locals in there were all raving about how class the stadium looked in the drone shots on TG4.

You don't get it ? Waterford could sell out both championship games this year on their own. That would not be right and won't happen as Clare and Limerick supporters need to and should be accommodated.
