We just don't have the hurlers at the minute. When we were competing with the top teams Simon was corner back, now he's midfield. Casey was third choice goalkeeper, now he's the first sub on. We have some very good hurlers but we don't have the strength and depth. WEX98 (Wexford) - Posts: 478 - 27/04/2025 18:28:22 2604683 Link 0 |
Best Antrim by 11 points, just saying. Clare v Waterford was a pretty poor game, and Tipp v Cork a non event.

Tbf, I don't think we've had depth for a long time, we weren't far away from being a 17/18 man team under Davy

Well hard luck yesterday. I never kick anyone when they are down and won't now either. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1325 - 27/04/2025 20:05:43 2604735 Link 0 |

Rossi will have to make some hard calls for the Galway game. We will need to step up a gear or two for this game. Jippo and Jacko if fit will be automatic choices and I feel that Richie and Charlie might be the ones to lose out. Its horses for courses so I would suggest Jack Redmond would provide a physical presence. With Chin and Jacko we would then have three ball winners in our front six. Lads I didn't watch the Sunday Game last night but I believe or hope that decision was highlighted. It just makes me more disappointed to see it again on tv, the ball didn't cross the line end of. WEXILE (Wexford) - Posts: 361 - 28/04/2025 07:52:40 2604863 Link 0 |
What way is two teams separated if they finish level lads is it head to head or score difference ? I think it's normally 2 teams Its head to head and 3 teams is score difference. Whatever way we look at it it's hard to see any way we can go through if we don't get a result in Galway Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 538 - 28/04/2025 08:31:11 2604868 Link 0 |
Head to head. Points difference only if there's 2 or more on tied in the table

At least we are trying to change things up. E Ryan, Byrne, Foley, Lawlor, Molloy. Codd, Roche, Carley and CBD on the bench. Most of those were involved in the Leinster minor winning team for 2019 and one we threw away at u20 in 2023 v Offaly, some involved in both. We are finding as with most counties that's there a world of difference between u20 and senior inter county levels. Another reason for going back to u21 maybe. We aren't going to seriously compete again until some of these step up and become the core of the team. That's with Chin in particular getting towards the end of his career. We should be getting a lot more from likes of D Reck, Jacko, Dunbar even Rory. Would still give us every chance of beating Galway again but we need Ryan and Chin fit. Umpire went to raise the green flag then stops because he obviously sees the ball hasn't crossed the line . Ref calls the goal despite fanning being between him and the ball and more than likely obstructing his line of sight.. Why the referee didn't consult his umpire is a mystery and when he looks back at the incident he'll see he made a huge error

Even though the penalty save and subsequent goal were at a critical time, i still think Wexford had plenty of opportunities to win the game. Chin had two very bad wides from frees as had Reck and Donohoe. I do think Conor Foley was left too long at corner back too and the damage was done by the time he was eventually changed. Dublin outsmarted us and we didn't respond. No one expected their route 1 game and we let it happen. I'm not sure why Jack Redmond was named and subsequently dropped and not used. He had an ankle injury from the Antrim game but did line out for Rathnure yesterday in ACHL. Small forwards on a tight pitch rarely works. I'm not convinced we'd have won the game if the penalty incident had gone our way. Thought the timing of our goals were keeping us in the game to be honest and they were far slicker with their hurling

I think the Galway game is a knockout game for us but not for them even though we are on the same points. Kilkenny will more than likely beat Offaly and Dublin leaving them on 8 points before they play us. If we lose to Galway both Galway and Dublin will have head to head on us going into their last game against each other. We need everyone fit for the Galway game its a game we can win. We need management to make calls much quicker like changing lads positions and not conceding puck outs resulting in putting more pressure on our full back line. We need players to step up too I was frustrated with some of the lads we were so slow onto break particularly in the forwards and were extremely lax when it came to putting pressure on Dublin coming out with the ball. This is happened before like in Kilkenny 2nd half last year

Disappointing result but all is not lost, Parnell Park is always worth 4 or 5 points to Dublin and does not suit a team of Wexfords size. Problems were clear to see. Total chaos under the high ball in the full back line. Did we learn nothing from Westmeath two years ago and Dublin last year? It was blindingly obvious very early, fail to understand how it took until the damage was done to bring in Liam Ryan. On the flip side 4-19 was a great return and a returning Jacko will help in Salthill. Galway very beatable. Where would we be without Chin, he looks better than ever to me, if he stays fit we can still progress. FearBeag (Mayo) - Posts: 84 - 28/04/2025 10:38:27 2604901 Link 0 |
If we beat Galway the most points they can finish on is 6, and they won't have the head to head on us or Kilkenny. It's as knockout for them as it is for us.

I agree with you WEX98 but you're point also highlights that it is as harder to be dropped out the of a county panel now than it is to get into it..... With development squads the whole way up to 20's it more about physical development and sadly our basics are being forgotten about. Our basics just are not good enough - catching, striking and first touch. Just because your a good athlete and have been in the county set up since you were under 14 or whatever and a good minor doesn't mean you're going to be good enough for senior inter county - the build up to the penalty clearly shows this . Good hurlers that are from outside of the bubble but are still relatively young never get a call up into training panels or squads where as lads that are average in club champ but have the reputation still are. Then we are surprised when these lads don't perform in championship....
