Mcgeeney pleading with armagh fans to keep away from team.....he came out with the same line after div1 league win in 04. I think the armagh players are a grounded enough bunch to deal with the noise. In any case the county of armagh deserves to enjoy the build up and hype of an all ireland final. It's fantastic. Look for both counties enjoy the build up , i remember the early 2000's we thought we would be there every yr - we might be back next yr , or another 21 years …. Well I've fancied Galway all year. They've been to the well and not drunk a few times but they look a bit battle hardened now. Having said this Armagh have developed a resilience that is standing them in good stead too. It'll be a very colourful final, both have great, loyal fans and it is something different which football needs. I'm sticking with Galway by 2/3 points. We are generally very quick to turn our backs on the footballers, especially compared to our hurling supporters who are far less sensitive. I hope the 5k of us that attended the monaghan game a few weeks ago in salthill get tickets. I wouldnt be in any way worried about the 25k bandwagoners that came from nowhere last sunday! An interesting fact is that Geezer was the first man to lift the Sam Maguire on the new Hogan stand and also the last to lift it infront of the Nally stand. Galway were the last to lift it on the previous Hogan stand. Meath should have been the last but they lifted it on the pitch. I forgot about the Leinster championship so Dublin may be the first football team to lift a cup on it. By the way, some Ulster counties won't support Armagh. Tyrone for example don't support other northern teams. In fact they would support their historic enemies Donegal (Tir Chonaill) over Armagh/Derry which historians may find confusing. Many from other Ulster counties would have fond memories and a wee soft spot for Dun na nGall though. Some attend summer courses in its Gaeltacht , others would holiday there on its beautiful coastline. More than a few own holiday homes there and form friendships with the easy going ,friendly locals. I believe some in the hills of Donegal descended from Tyrone families evicted during the Ulster plantation and moved West for refuge. I'd imagine there would be good cooperation between farming communities from adjacent counties along its fertile border zone whether it be trading livestock, machinery, silage making etc. Looking back at the '92 All Ireland final on Tg4 I wondered why so many orange flags greeted Donegal scores, learned later that Armagh had contested the minor final (losing narrowly to a late Meath goal) and their fans stayed on to support Donegal's historic breakthrough. Spoke to a good few Donegal fans after last Sunday's match. Some hoped Armagh would win their second title while others wouldn't mind a Galway victory due to attending College, work, West Coast allegions/Gaeltacht and memories of fun times in the City of the Tribes. Would like to see Galway win Sam tbh. But after the semi final win over kerry, I think Armagh will do it now. There just appears to be a steely determination about them this year.
