Was Joey Barton Correct When He Said Woman Should Not Discuss Mens Sport

Tomsmith here from Cavan

I have read that Joey Barton said and I quote .
Controversial ex-footballer Joey Barton kicked off a fresh row yesterday when he suggested women commentators should not talk 'with any kind of authority' about men's football. He further added that Woman speaking about men in sport was akin to men discussing woman knitting
Its a strong statement but no one better than Mr Barton to raise an issue that should possibly remain silent.
It is noted that a lot the Oral news outlets use Ladies on the broadcast panel , I suppose its to extend the hand of friendship.
Then again a lot of the Lady presenters are quite knowledgeable in relation to some sports

Joey Barton was spot on in my opinion, of course he'll likely be cancelled now and probably be flogged in public as well.
Most women I know have no interest in football, they have even less interest in women's football.
If you have kids or family members playing ladies football then ok they'll be involved when it's their own family playing, apart from that no, they have women presenters and pundits on just to satisfy the woke crowd.

I'm no fan of Barton, but he raised a valid point. He just put it across appallingly, which is no surprise really....

I think you'll find the vast majority of people will agree with him but will be afraid to say it in case they get cancelled. As he said himself, not one man professional soccer player has called him out as being wrong.

It's not sexist to say that men's soccer and women's soccer are two completely different games so both genders should just stick to analysing their own is it? If that's considered sexist then we are in trouble. Surely it should just be an all female panel for women's soccer and an all male panel for men's soccer? GAA panels should be no different.

He's completely wrong.

Plenty of women have a strong interest in sport.

Plenty of the existing players being booked to these shows are uninformed or un-engaging.

Live sports coverage increasingly accounts for the non-streaming content that is being produced by media outlets and is being engaged by the general public and has the largest budgets. You'd be limiting the number of meaningful broadcasting roles available to women to a ridiculous degree.

Joey Barton should almost never be listened to. Wait until someone with half a brain brings this up as a real issue before debating it.

Ursula Jacob and Anna Geary won 4 intercounty AIs each and 10 all stars between them.

I haven't listened to the interview because I choose not to listen to him speak as he's a very unpleasant individual but have seen the headlines and from my own perspective I find it ridiculous that women pundits are on most of the panels for men's football now. I'm sure they are a lot more knowledgeable than I am regarding tactics and so on but it's not something I'm a fan of.
Kevin Keegan said the same thing a few weeks back and I'm sure there's lots for and lots against. It won't change now regardless.

'men's soccer and women's soccer are two completely different games'

What would you say are the main differences?

Football is football; it doesn't matter who's talking about it. Joey Barton's argument is nonsense; what would be wrong with men talking about women's knitting? It's just knitting. Stupid, stupid statement from the first word to the last (based on Tom Smith's telling of it).

and tom appears from his mother basement once again!

Why bring up barton when on multiple past posts you complain about lads following and watching English sports?

I really home you had a bad motorbike accident as a kid or something otherwise your dribble is just plain inexcusable tripe

Agreed. It's like saying Sonia O Sullivan shouldn't comment on mens athletics. Katie Taylor on boxing?
Just a lot of insecure sexists.

That last paragraph is more ignorant and insensitive than anything Barton said, regardless of who it was aimed at.

Depends how easy on the eye they are, seriously though in fairness to female pundits they do seem to be as knowledgeable as the men are so I've no problem with them.

Take GAA for example. A female pundit on a mens who was a former ladies football goalkeeper. How can she says that she has a knowledge and give a few on a male keeper when it's a completely different position apart from the name.

A person doesn't have to have played a game to be a good pundit but in most cases both male and female pundits are brought in because they had played the game.

It's not about the sport they are analysing it's about equal rights from the broadcasters. If they didn't there would be uproar. Every TV has a volume button.

I just simply fail to understand the mind set of some posters here, some will read what is put in front of them and some will reply (or not), however there is a poster on this forum who has other posters eating out of his hand, he dangles a carrot and quiet a few including a couple of his critics want to chew on it, I haven't engaged with him and probably won't having said that it is plain to be seen very few, if any, engage with my postings and so be it, I feel comfortable within myself knowing I am not a troll or a time waster, I post in what I believe in and I believe in what I post, full stop.

It appears now as if this forum is a closed shop, I explained all of this to a few friends recently their reply was if you are not attached to an appropriate county jersey you will always be classed as a misfit irrespective of how honest your posts are, even a known troll will be accepted first, wow.

Personally, I am very much aware that this is a nameless and faceless forum etc, etc, etc. however, I will continue to post as necessary.

Merry Christmas
Joey, carrots not included.

I'd agree with him - when a woman says an elite male player has done something wrong I'd always think to myself as if you could do better? When Ian Wright says a player should hit the target, you go fair enough sure he knows what he's talking about.. but I Jill something or another saying it is like the fat lad in the pub saying it… it's meaningless?
