It will. Dead right but more than enough room for gaelic, hurling, soccer rugby and any other amount of sports. In all places around the country

You also see it in soccer. I'd attend Anfield typically once a year and despite the capacity being increased the atmosphere has declined. Don't get me wrong if you have a champions league night or game v top 6 it's still great. Too many cooperates and tourists and I know that's ironic as I'm a tourist. However if you pay big money and go to a game why not shout, chant, sing and get behind the team you support? Clowns watching games through their phones, taking selfies etc….youd be as well stay at home. Problem with society now is people want to feel important, be liked, get those social media likes and shares. It's pathetic. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11409 - 17/11/2024 14:38:53 2579969 Link 0 |
It isn't growing in rural communities. At all. It's actually weaker in Connacht and Ulster in those GAA and soccer areas. Friday night games in Dublin show they don't care about anyone outside of the Dublin area if they think it's profitable.

It is in areas like Tuam and surrounding areas growing in last 10 15 years. You had the likes of Byrne brothers will connors playing down in creggs this weekend Still doesn't change atmosphere is cat. jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1285 - 17/11/2024 21:04:09 2580049 Link 0 |
With boxing, it doesn't help how fight deals are done. Listening to the Netflix commentary (appointed by Jake Paul) of Katie's fight on Friday night, you'd swear she was hammered in a 1-sided formality. They were putting up their own round by round scorecard and got round 2 and 10 blatantly wrong. Fix those 2 rounds and you arrive at the exact same score the 3 judges unanimously arrived at. But all the armchair keyboard warriors are out in force now claiming Serrano was robbed. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5194 - 17/11/2024 23:01:24 2580064 Link 0 |
How many new clubs in Connacht in the past 10 years?

With the Saudis now investing big money into boxing I'm hoping we see an end to this exhibition freak show stuff. If it wasn't for Taylor and Serrano putting up a close and entertaining fight, that night would've been the worst and most over hyped fight card in boxing history. There was literally people walking out during the 'main event' and rightly so, it was depressing. Surely this YouTube following that has made Jake Paul rich will realise that there are so many better and more entertaining fighters than this bluffer and his brother. But as a previous poster highlighted, there are a lot of event junkies around without much attachment to the sport itself.

No idea and I was talking about existing clubs. Not new clubs but the development of clubs already there. Dunmore as an example their rugby club has developed massively in last 10 years. Tuam has big setup now. They will always be GAA heartlands but rugby has grown in these towns. jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1285 - 18/11/2024 10:52:01 2580115 Link 0 |
Me and you thrashed this out previously. You named clubs not even in existence anymore. Then you left the debate. You never listen to me even when I tell you what's going on in my own province.

So go on and say how it's weaker in connacht. Lived and was extensively involved in rugby in connnacht for well over a decade so I do know rugby landscape there. Yet again you claim you know something and as usual you don't go into specifics. You do it to everyone on everything. Claim you know it all and never say you're wrong KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 18/11/2024 11:35:00 2580123 Link 2 |
Dunmore are doing great work especially at underage with multiple girls teams. But again they are not a new club. It's the same clubs who have their ups and downs.

Are you serious? You don't remember this debate with me ? You even mentioned Crossmolina. Any of this ringing a bell ? You get so defensive and claim I have never given specifics yet we have literally debated this very issue.

The fight before Katie's was decent too, to be fair. The Saudi involvement has and will get some big fights done but it's plain proof that the sport has no interest in its image and is all about the $$$. Saying that, it's 50 years since Zaire bought the biggest fight in history to town in a huge sportswashing push, so has it ever been any other way. . . cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5194 - 18/11/2024 13:09:35 2580142 Link 0 |
I claimed Harris would win the U.S election. I always admit when I am wrong. You should try it sometime .

Two well known, nation-wide, sportsmen played for Corinthians and Tuam in the 90s. One of them captained Tuam. Who are they?

Well, this is it. I've been a boxing fan for most of my life but the sport has always been a wash with unsavoury characters and questionable funding. I love the sport for the science of boxing and the many great athletes and personalities it has produced. But I did feel like there was a lull in the sport for the last 15/20 years. Maybe the growth of MMA partly to do with that but it seemed as though the biggest fights weren't being made or being made past their sell by. Too many world title organisations diluted the rankings to the point that anyone holding any of the main belts could claim to be the 'real' champ while often tip toeing past a more dangerous name at the same time. Obviously, it all boils down to risk/reward ratio for fighters. But it seems like the money on the table now makes the risk a lot more plain sailing. Sport in general seems to be going down the same road though. Look at soccer and golf. If there's a sport with a great image in 2024, I need to know more about it. Our own GAA, despite it's critiques, is about as close as you'll likely get. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2501 - 18/11/2024 13:43:54 2580149 Link 1 |
I'm old enough to remember when there was only 1 World Champion at every weight, then there were 2 and who knows how many now. I think boxing has always, as you say, had "dodgy" characters in the wings. A bit like the singers and musicians agents, when all the hangers on get paid, there was little left for the artist or boxer. Don King was literally the king, what he said went. If a boxer dodged the number 1 contender, he was stripped of his title, now they have so many belts, they can't lose them all. The mobs were into it from the early years. It is relatively easy to fix a two horse race. And such was the popularity of the sport, massive money was won and lost. Some of the best fighters were at the lower weights. Middleweight was nearly the best weight to watch. Some of the best fighters ever fought at this weight. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1271 - 18/11/2024 17:18:20 2580188 Link 0 |
