Hard to progresss when your goalkeeper is one of your best attackers and when you get to scoring range you handpass the ball back and forth looking like you don't know how to make a decision. Galway were miles ahead of us today and not close to full strength.Even if we're missing players those that played today should be getting first to more ball, have more oride in themselves and the jersey in front if the home crowd. A senior intercounty forward of any level should be able to kick points from outside the arc. I don't know if our lads are not well able to do that but the gameplan isn't encouraging them to try that. We're back training a while now and fitness isn't bad but team decision making was awful. For years and years we are seen as a humbug for being almost at full tilt for the opening games of the League and indeed won it a recently, Only to run out of steam when it really matters. So seen as the big name players, AOS, Tommy Conroy, Paddy and Jordan are all to come back its still all to play for. Mayo are already in the Connacht final and Kevin is well aware of it, martinjoe (Mayo) - Posts: 525 - 02/02/2025 19:13:38 2588991 Link 0 |
That's not to excuse the lack of effort today though MartinJoe. And the atitude that some better known players will be guaranteed starting places when they're back. Tommy takes 4 or 5 games to get up to speed but, like Cilkuan until recently, seemed guaranteed a start when fit. Aidan's been great under McStay but, like Paddy, is past his best and needs to be challenged for the jersey. They should be looking to improve the current available squad to make it very difficult to let returning players take their jersies. They didn't look interested after 10 minutes if the second half. And having some pride and fight and keeping the scoreline more respectable could keep us in Division One if points difference decides it.

I hope the little "expert" who approached the referee after the game is dealt with appropriately by the Mayo County Board. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1116 - 02/02/2025 20:46:04 2589031 Link 3 |
Most of those wides were from well inside the arc and should have been scored but he wasn't the only one. Before all this hand passing started scores from 40m out was normal.

I think it's more the line than the players.

We get the ball in and open to take a shot then pass it off to someone else. It's almost if they have a standard number of passes to be made before someone can shoot. We get the ball on the 14 and lo and behold it's outside the 45, boggles the mind what they're thinking. Also getting caught twice for not having three players in our own half is ridiculous.

Mayo not even a top 6 side anymore, while the likes of Cork, Roscommon in the Top 1O would fancy their chances against us. Vish (USA) - Posts: 94 - 03/02/2025 10:07:19 2589153 Link 0 |
Connacht rugby have been in contact with mayo GAA in regards the fan and referee issue. Good chance fans will not be allowed on the field after the rugby game now. Kew (Galway) - Posts: 135 - 03/02/2025 15:46:25 2589240 Link 0 |

Any word on Diarmuid O Connor injury? Brought to hospital after the game. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11463 - 04/02/2025 08:24:19 2589339 Link 0 |
I would love to know what Mayo were trying to do in that first half. On numerous occasions the backs & midfield refused to give the ball to forwards in scoring positions opting instead to recycle the ball out to midfield. Give the damn ball to the players that can score. Also what was Reid supposed to do when he passed the ball, vanish into thin air. Ridiculous call by the ref. cluichethar (Mayo) - Posts: 493 - 16/02/2025 14:31:20 2591338 Link 0 |
Thank God that game is over but unfortunately Mayo and Tyrone will play again to make us sick. Mayo have gone from one of the most exciting teams in the country to now they're Tyrone. cluichethar (Mayo) - Posts: 493 - 16/02/2025 15:26:26 2591351 Link 0 |
When will they play again?

It's a win and two valuable points but that's all you can say really. Team look clueless, rudderless and bereft of ideas. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11463 - 16/02/2025 15:53:54 2591359 Link 0 |
I don't mean against each other I mean they will be playing in the next round making us sick all over again. That was to quote Pat Spillane "puke football". Should relegate the two of them & not let them play again till next January

And if that wasn't bad enough I now get to watch United play puke soccer. 6" of wet heavy snow to be shoveled but it's raining now so this day has no redeeming qualities.

Should be a great game on Saturday, hopefully as good as two years ago. Under lights packed inside the Athletic Grounds. Armagh at home, smarting after their Donegal defeat. We don't look impressive but got our win. Defence has improved, we need to be more decisive near the posts, forget about inside or ourside the arc, take the chances when they come. It's a defining game for our league. Get something out of the game and who knows we may just stay up. Lose and we are practically gone in my opinion. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11463 - 21/02/2025 08:53:18 2592215 Link 0 |
