I see your total dislike for us extends to many threads as is per your entitlement mind you. I love the way we are being disregarded as a serial contender this year. No issue tbh and Down on Sunday of course will a big test for us.

I'm just pointing out the facts Monaghsn are well able to put it up to you if you draw . If you hadn't lost Comer to injury for the season you'd be contenders. No I don't like Galway gaa so what you lot us hate us clear as day is well and most of us don't like you either. S1234 (Mayo) - Posts: 220 - 19/06/2025 16:49:36 2619302 Link 0 |
Monaghan are definitely in the mix for ultimate honours particularly with their 2 pointer options. I don't believe there are many from Galway officially or unofficially saying Monaghan wouldn't give us a game. Of course they would but it won't happen anyway if Down turn us over. Hard to generalise tbh on hating each other (Mayo/Galway). Most of my Galway peers would have supported ye in all those finals but I guess you had a different experience. I know there are Mayo people who would have supported us in 2022 and last year so a mixed bag I would think. We are definitely not as close as l many of the Northern counties are who traditionally seem to band together in support of one another once they are out of Ulster.

In fairness you sound like a decent Galway supporter . Yes I had some bad experiences with Galway supporters over the years . One coming out of croker after kerry beat us in quarters Lee Keagans last match and these Galway ones shouting abuse at every mayo one going out even little kids . Ive other stories to . Now we all have our own clowns of supporters of course every county does. Though I have to admit there's some awful clowns over on your forum . I'll say enjoy the rest of championship as you do sound decent . Sorry to the Monaghan folk on here for talking Mayo /Galway ha! Monaghan have come a long way since last year I think fair play. You are up and coming. You play exciting football to . S1234 (Mayo) - Posts: 220 - 19/06/2025 22:22:17 2619354 Link 0 |

Meath and Monaghan are definitely both outside bets, but there'll never be a better chance of a big shock than this year with the new rules coming in and adding a bit of chaos. Also, I think Div 2 teams seemed to adapt to the new possibilities quicker than Div 1 teams this year. Maybe the slightly lower level of competition in the league gave them more room to experiment than the big teams, and it seemed to play a part in you shocking Dublin and Kerry. Mayo scored less 2ptrs in the entire championship than Rory Beggan did against Down, which is ridiculous for a "big" county, and they've played the price.

Any year when Kerry and Dublin are simultaneously 'off-the-boil' is a year for new teams to make hay. Mayo, as is their way, have again missed the opportunity. I don't think Meath have the tools to win 3 big games in row in Croke Park against big contenders. And it's just nigh on impossible for any Monaghan supporter to truly believe their team could do it either. History matters in that regard. Are we overly naive in writing off Kerry and Dublin? Almost certainly yes, I think this weekend will cause a reset for both counties. If not, Armagh are best placed to take advantage. What's that over there in the long grass?? It's white with a Red Hand on it.. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1246 - 20/06/2025 12:44:09 2619451 Link 2 |
You know one of the things that made me happiest last weekend was Tyrone topping their group which meant we couldn't meet them in a quarter final. Death taxes and Tyrone wins over monaghan in croke Park. Seriously through whenever people talk of the most open championship in years usually kerry or Dublin win it. Think when we look back at the end of the year those sides will see the defeats to meath as a blessing in disguise which likes of armagh haven't had. Galway too can bounce from the preliminary quarter final. For ourselves I wouldn't mind another crack at donegal who might be vulnerable in a q/f given the amount of games they have played and over reliance on the great Michael Murphy. If they get past the quarter final and get few weeks off till semi final they'll win it.

You say Mayo missed out as is our way ? Nice little dig in there coming from someone from Monaghan ! Things haven't been right under current management. You saw it in Donegal when Rochford was there . Same boring later style of play, players opting out and trouble in the camp . I know a guy who is a starter and wanted to opt out as said going nowhere with style of play . He also said make no mistake Rochford is the manager not mcstay and said the guys don't like him . One game at a time. Only team I'm concerning myself with is the team drawn against us on Monday morning ( which will more than likely be Donegal as GAA won't want too many Ulster teams potentially progressing). Blackcardnot (USA) - Posts: 57 - 20/06/2025 14:16:06 2619477 Link 0 |
Not a dig, more of an observation. 1996 was an aberration for Mayo, but in 1997 they missed a great chance with Meath gone and before a great Kerry team emerged, again in 2012 before the greatest team ever came along, and again even in 2021 when Dublin had faded a bit. At least they were in the mix in those years, unlike Monaghan!
