listening to tommy freeman on the farney pod and he was saying that he was disappointed he never got called back into the squad after quitting and the fact of the matter was that his services werent required - such was the squality we had back then. The same man would nearly get a jersey on todays team

Exactly, it doesn't make any sense to discount two thirds of our clubs...plenty of guys like Fintan Kelly had long careers and played the majority of it at junior level for their club.

When you see the competence of some of our refs as it is within Monaghan, I genuinely don't know how these same refs will adapt to trying to implement and manage these new changes… all this whilst we're in the middle of a crisis with trying to get new refs on board as it is….

One of the greatest ever players to put on a Monaghan Jersey "Ciaran Murray" was from Clones, Generally a Intermediate\Junior team.

I would say that the standard of referring within the county is fairly good, we have 5 refs at on the national refs panel. the age profile of refs in monaghan should suggest that these guys should be able to adapt to the new rules. Biggest issue is the majority of players and coaches are not familiar with the rules. its going to be a cultural change required. latefortraining (Monaghan) - Posts: 119 - 02/12/2024 16:38:44 2582078 Link 0 |

my understanding is that the fixtures are out and the teams/management are all aware of them but i also dont see anything online. strange one but also not surprising

I heard we don't have any substantial away trips, but that's just hearsay until the fixtures are out. Be nice to try get a deal on a hotel if we were, you know.

Breffni underlights, a fitting end to a miserable month. Do the hurlers not have a home venue?

When is the first round of Ulster for the 20s and who have they got. Really an age group we need to be making a mark at. You'd take all Ireland appearances at this age group and not the u16/u17 level

Interesting Vinny left us and ended up going to Gowna with the brother. Mightnt been the happiest camp last year. Was a hard year to be fair and he'd be a v proud man. Like look of our league programme. Louth and Meath will feel like home games as so near. Should be winning most of our matches bar maybe roscommon and cavan away if we have most of a full squad available. We were desperate last year but only exited to a Galway side in pearse stadium by three points who knocked out the dubs a week later and kicked away the all ireland final v armagh. Might be wishful thinking but think if we get the heads right ourselves and roscommon will go up. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1848 - 07/12/2024 18:31:06 2582727 Link 0 |
Have to disagree, we are as likely to get relegated as promoted. Roscommon, Cork and Down are shorter price at bookies to go up. Meath and Louth away will be tough games and neither holds any fear of Monaghan. Cavan away first up will be a dogfight. Lose that and you are on the back foot straight away.

Honestly think staying in division 2 would be better. Saves been in a dogfight every year before the championship even starts... Division would allow us to be a fresher team going into championship football instead of this embarrassing stuff of fans running onto the clones pitch like we won an ireland for just avoiding relegation. Last 2 ulster winners played division 2 as did last 2 all ire land winners.. I think stay Div 2 and avoid what happened the corks, derry, down cavan and even kildare of last year of back to back relegation. currinman (Monaghan) - Posts: 42 - 08/12/2024 08:02:05 2582750 Link 0 |
